I was wondering about getting a list of bulbs and availablity for the ST170's since I know its been a pain in the butt trying to find decent ones myself. I sent an email to Sylvania about Silverstars and she told me that the H1's would be available in late May, where the H7's would be available in late August.

H7 Low beam - Phillips Vision Plus, Blue vision, and All Weather. Linky | Sylvania Normal(can be bought at Autozones etc) and Cool blue H7CB. | APC makes some but watch the wattages Linky | PIAA I dont know what versions there are of these but I know you can use the link above to find some. | Hella I found some Hella H7 Premium +50's on McNew's

H1 High beam - Phillips Vision Plus, Blue vision, Premium and all weather can follow the link above | Napa Sells some Wagner normal ones 1255H1 | Again APC sells some of these also.

City Lights - Part number 194

Blinker Lights - Part numbers 1157

If anyone else has ST170's and know all the part numbers please post the numbers and where you found them. I myself have orderd the Hella H7 Premium +50's and the Vision Plus H1's.

This list is an awesome idea. I had trouble finding bulbs that were quality so I settled for some from a local tuning shop. Unfortunately I haven't been able to try them due to finding my lights were damaged and I am dealing with a postal claim now. Great to hear the Silverstars are going to be available soon (relatively speaking)

I bought bulbs from my local CarQuest parts store.

ST-170 Headlamp bulbs:
H1 - High Beam
H7 - Low Beam
194 - City Lights
1156NA - Turn Signal (or if you can find them, a 1003 with a smaller glass and it has to be a single pole/single filament bulb, not a dual pole/dual filament as with the 1157 series bulb).

You do not need "special" bulbs, because at that point you're wasting your money.

Any tips on adjusting the lamps?

Thanks much.

I like the ST-170's I bought from European-Parts (Indy) because the housings are grey and I have a black car; and I still paid less in total for both lamps, including sockets and backing plates, the plug kits and shipping from Germany than Bat-inc is selling just the kit for.

The only thing you have to be careful about is making sure the H7 low-beam bulbs sit properly or else you will have the beam go all over the place and you might melt the hood over the bulb.

Other than this, they're great and were relatively easy to install. I used red splice-lok connectors, taped up the existing factory plug end, used wire-ties to keep things from flopping around and voila, ready to go.

I think I'm going to get a pair of Hella Yellow Star H1 bulbs for the high-beams because they are really bright and have that nice amber hue when you do use them. I'm also going to use the turns signals as my parking lamps and have the grille lamps as turn-signal only lamps.

Then I still have to hook up the City-lights to the European headlamp switch - perhaps Sunday when I have time to run a wire through the firewall and out and around the existing harness, etc.

Happy Motoring!

Woohoo, I got my ST170's in the mail today and I am going to install them on sunday along with my euro hood lock. I will post some pictures when everything is done. The city lights and the blinker lights were really easy to find. I just went to Napa and they had a crap load of both sets and I also got the 194(city lights) in amber and white. I might try to add some color to the white ones and put them in from time to time. I was coming up with another idea about using some LED's and figured out a way to maybe hook them up. Since you dont use all the sockets in the vw plug and there is enough room to put some wires through the city light area, I might try to hook up some LED's inside the lights. But thats for later I think.

The blinkers do not need to be red. They are white bulbs, the blinker housings have a yellow casing so color is not an issue. The city lights are in an open area, right below the Low beam H7, so they will show whatever color the bulb is. The install kit and the adapter plugs are the same thing SlvrSVT. Although you will have to splice some wires from the stock location or get some kind of wire hook up for an oposite end plug. To actualy install them, all you would need is the headlight assembly, the harness that Indy supplies and the bulbs listed above. All the other things you listed are not needed but really nice to have.
The Euro headlight control is not to use the city lights. That control is for manually aiming the headlights from within the car(some euro thing that we dont have) Indy sells them too.

I am wanting to put these on my SVT and I am trying to figure out everything I will need to install and use these.

-ST170 Lights
-Installation Kit
-Adapter plugs So I don't have to cut wires on car
-Euro Grill
-Hoodlock
-H1 And H7 Bulbs

I don't understand what happens to the turn signals that are already om my car. Where do they go or how do they get wired into the new lights? To use the citylights do I have to buy the euro headlight control and who sell it? Any help or advice welcome and also is there any other parts I will need.

Thanks
Cory

No, since they have a different plug on the bulbs. The ST170 bulbs are round, the stock lamps have a square plug with 3 wires. The wiring of the ST170 does not use the blinker bulbs as parking lights, the reason for using the 1157 bulb, its a twist in bulb that uses pos and neg. The city lights work as the parking lights.

don't know if this is off topic or not, but if it is sorry. i was just wondering how you get the high and low beams to come on at the same time without holding the lever in. such as when i switch on high, all four lights would be on instead of having just your high beams on, btw i have hella projectors.

After driving in some rain tonight I have really noticed a difference between the Silverstars and the Hella +50%'s. I was a die hard silverstar user but now after seeing the these Hella's in action I am glad I got them. I always thought the silverstars in my stock headlights seemed to be a lil hard to see at night in the rain. I dont know if its the difference between the H7 and the 9003 but I see Everything beautifully now at night in the rain. I havent had a chance to see the brights in action that much but they are definatly bright, and the Phillips have a lil blue hue to them inside the housings from the lil blue tint they have on the bulbs.

Since you are technically still using the same wires as the stock headlights, would you really want to take that chance? Waiting a lil over a month for my headlights to get to me, I would not want to mess up mine. All I hear is horror stories when using higher wattage bulbs. Either the wires melt/burn or the housing turns a yellow color or the top inside of the headlights burn and discolor.
