i noticed the st170 rear bumper has a strip of what appears to be rubber across the back of it. does anyone know if that can be removed? and if so, is what is left just an indent, but smooth with no holes? i'm curious cause i am looking into getting a euro rear, but the early models have that rubber lip at the bottom and the rs is expensive, so i thought maybe i could go the cheaper route and get the st170 rear and just remove the rubber strip. possible?
Just buy the 99-01 Euro rear bumper. It is pretty much identical to the 2002 and up euro rear, except, it doesnt have the rubber moulding strip. and I dont know about this rubber lip at the bottom you are talking about on the earlier bumpers, My friend has the euro rear on his car, and the bumper is one piece all the way to the bottom, and the black lower part can be fully painted.
so that black thing at the bottom of the 98 bumper isnt a rubber strip? thats good to know. i always just assumed it was. maybe i'll just go with that one then...
I got the '98 bumper and even that my car was black i still painted the bottom (what you guys think its RUBBER). it is not rubber at all but rougher finish of same plastic material. Mine looks great as you can see and if your car is anything else but black, you can sand it down for smoother finish before you paint it.
IMHO i think that leaving bottom black/unpainted does not look very good and clean, but its all in the eye of beholder.
sweet! thats exactly the info i was looking for. i like the rs rear, but i'd much rather save some money and just go with a basic rear bumper... its the us hemroid bumper that i am just looking to get rid of. my biggest concern with the stock euro rear was that lower black piece, but now i know it can be painted. i definitely know the route i'm going with! thanks guys!
