Car has over 200,000 miles on it closer to 210,000 than 205,000 I would say by now but this issue croped up about two weeks ago after I had to replace a heater hose due to catastrophic failure (i.e. leaving a smoke cloud behind the car at 80mph on the highway failure). The car starts fine without issue everytime, drives great and idles pretty low like, hovers right around the first check mark low. But here are the symptoms:
Driving at highway speeds (usually around 70 or faster) the car will give one huge shutter/stumble jerking the car quite hard and then be 100% fine for the rest of the day. This usually happens once a day and its always while cruising only happened once during acceleration. I can't seem to make any connection as to what as far as external infulences cause this though I have a suspicion wet weather plays a part, I haven't had it out and paid attention to the conditions and frequency of this issue long enough to confirm or deny it.
Stalling, it will stall while sitting at a red light or stop sign just any time when the car is not in motion or in gear (it is a manual). Just today in fact I started the car in my work parking lot drove for about 2 or 3 minutes to a red light and while sitting waiting for it turn green it stalled without giving a jerk or showing any signs of the engine trying to stay at idle. I started the car up and with in a minute it was stalled again, started it another time when the light turned green and drove about 60 yards to another red light where once I was sitting at idle it cut out again without and signs of a struggle. I started it back up once more drove the 40/45 minutes home stopped at a few redlights and stop signs and it idled fine.
Steps I'm taking to attempt to right this wrong:
New IAC, I'm picking this up tomorrow to swap out its had funky issues with idle before, now whether that's tied to the IAC or some electric issues this car has with battery and charging system I don't know, but after this new alternator was installed the lights are no longer dimming so I'm checking that system up to solved.
New Motorcraft SP-478 spark plugs, I need to find the proper gapping information for them before I stick them in but I have no idea how long the current plugs have been in there
new fuel filter, again no idea how long that has been in there but I figure I might as well throw one in, I have heard of more stupid crap causing larger issues.
Any other ideas at all would be greatly appreciated I was thinking about doing the fuel injectors but don't really have the money for it, unless you guys know if I can use SVT Zetec injectors without issue, I should still have mine from when I installed the JRSC in my race car.
After the injectors I have absolutly no other idea, possibly a TPS maybe? I don't know any help would be great.
Thank you!
