Yeah! Hopefully they make a Swift GT!

In Suzuki’s ambitious plans to grow its global sales, GreenCarCongress is reporting via a Japanese subscription-based news site that the Japanese automaker will be bringing its Swift subcompact to the North American market as early as 2007. Suzuki has obviously noticed the “Small is big” mentality that’s gaining cred with consumers over here. As fuel efficiency rises in priority among North American consumers, a vehicle like the Swift emerges as a solid business case. While Suzuki has not indicated what powertrains would be offered for the Swift over here, the thought of a MINI-like pocket rocket with a Hyundai-like price couldn’t be more tempting.

and r they going to make a 2 door version of the swift?

They offer the 2 door in other parts of the world so I don't see why they wouldn't offer it in NA.

The Reno does resemble the Pegeot 206,207 from some angles IMO.

Suzuki needs to get deep and Euro with the Reno.

Being that Suzuki is coming out with the SX4 and now the Swift I wonder if Suzuki is going to keep the Reno. Not sure how well Reno sales are. Seems like they are not very popular cars. My wife has a Reno and IMO it is a well built car. Many extras for the money. Lots of style too IMO. Just a good not bland car.

This could be huge for Suzuki North America, assuming this actually happens. The only real Suzuki cars (not trucks) we've had in the U.S. have been the Aerio, the Esteem and the Swift/Metro and none have done much for Suzuki.

This is a company that is knowns throughout the world as being a manufacturer of excellent small cars — except in America where we get Daewoo clones.

Suzuki's lack of marketing in the U.S. has been huge, too.

This could be the car that changes the way Suzuki is looked at in the U.S., assuming it's marketed correctly.

I almost bought an Aerio three separate times; I really liked them! However, the low resale and small dealer network scared me off. I know Suzuki can build a good car, and hopefully this one will show America that this company can build more than SUVs and motorcycles.

I would consider one, only problem is there are no dealers around me.:(

I want the old Suzuki Swift with the turbo 1.0L! I had a chance to buy the newer 1.3L version, but they wanted too much for it. So instead i got a little truck. Anyways i do hope they develop a little turbo unit for it.

*sigh* I want it.

It brings back memories of my Sprints:

87 Sprint and 87 Tuboo Sprint.

I see a few modified ones at the autocross, man they look lots of fun. I would totally get a turbo one, but its needs to have at least 18-20lb/hp....

Anyone have some shots of angles from around the whole car, preferably in a 2-door Swift model? That little thing looks awesome so far, and if we'd get some sort of GT model that could be SVT-level, I may have just found a car to compete with my Solstice..

You can actually already buy this car in north america. It is sold in canada as the chevy optra

http://www.gmcanada.com/english/vehicles/chevrolet/optra/index.jsp

It really isn't that expensive either. Starts at 14k CDN, so like 12K US
