It's interesting that yours failed in the shut position. Most I've seen failed in the open so the power loss was quickly noticeable. Glad you got it swapped without having to pull the blower.

It's got a spring inside the diaphragm, I don't see how it could fail in any other position than with the actuator rod extended and the valve shut.

I could see a vacuum leak causing issues though.

Not sure, maybe the spring has failed? Seems diaphragm be much more likely.

Cracked open my old one last night, big tear in the diaphragm. Not sure how it wasn't causing any issues besides simply not working. The spring inside seems very strong, can't really imagine that breaking. Keep in mind the one I took off has been on the car for over 130k miles.

Yeah, of course who knows when it failed...i'd bet it's been a while. The diaphragm actuators are not known for their longevity.

Yeah, really tough to say. Should be easy for me to tell if it happens again though since the car has a boost gauge now and I know what to watch for. The previous owner never installed a gauge.
