I know that the static cling tail tinting thing has been done before... but I've done it now, and I'll explain HOW to do it!
Start with a nice clean tailight, give it a liberal dousing with a mild soap/water solution...
Make sure the lens sheet is in proper arangement...
Put the cling into place, spray more soap/water solution on the tint, and squeegee while stretching the tint to fit (it should be a little short so that it can stretch to the contour of the lens)...
Make sure all the water is worked out from under the film so as to give a nice smooth application...
When the tint has been applied properly, there is no problem washing the car and the tint without removing it...
If it's time to remove it, for whatever reason, just peel it away...
This stuff is awesome, and it can be re-applied over and over.
Oh and here's the gratuitous night shot
This is pretty easy to do really, especially if you have pre-cut tint, perfect for the shape of the light.
hmmmm... wonder where that can be had
(PM me and I'll tell you)
*I have a short video showing installation if anybody has a place to host it*
