Take out the cigarette lighter, and put a shift light there?

Wondering if anyone has attempted/done this. Since I dont smoke, its just kind of sitting there taking up otherwise useful space. I think the only major hangup would be to find a light that would slide right in without having to dremel the hell out of everything.

Isn't there a light in the guage cluster that comes on to tell you to shift? I have an automatic, so I don't have one. It would be fairly simple though, just tap into the wire thats connected to that light and run it to a bank of leds or a small bulb that resides in the cig lighter.

Thats what I would do, wouldn't that do the trick?

Yes there is a shift light, but it is geared to give you the best fuel economy. So if you shift when it tells you to, you end up in 5th gear going about 32mph.

I was thinking of putting a start button there once.

This is a very cool idea IMO, a few questions though to the people in the know. What would one use to activate the shift light (assuming I used some sort of LED relay/switch combo). In other words what woud tell the light to come on when I hit the desired shift RPM.

Thanks in advance.

You'd have to tap into the wiring that goes to the original light in the cluster and run the wires from that to a light in the ciggerette lighter for it to fucntion the same way...and then you don't have to worry about that.

Or

Cut the wires going to the light in the cluster, solder new wires to the ends and run them to the cigerette lighter so that way, thats the only light that goes on, otherwise you'd have too.

If thats how its done, thats fairly simple.

He's talking about a racing shift light, not a fuel-economy shift light. He can program it to light at a custom RPM, like 6000, or whatever he wants to shift at for max HP or torque.

Wiring isnt a problem, ive got a friend at the dealership that does interior. So basically what im looking at is a $40 light, a $70 module, a $30 "pill", and a couple hours of free time? Just might be a good Sunday project.
