Detroit, Michigan - Ford revealed photos of the first Harley-Davidson edition F-150 pickup built off the new F-150 platform today. The 2006 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCab, the seventh model to emerge from the alliance between Ford and Harley-Davidson, will be unveiled at the Detroit auto show next week.
"Now we're giving customers more of everything they love with the boldest Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 ever - with all-wheel-drive capability, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and an interior that will take your breath away," said Ford President Steve Lyons.
Lyons said F-150 Harley-Davidson customers said they wanted bigger wheels and all-wheel drive capability. The new model is now available in 4X2 and all-wheel-drive configurations, and offers standard 22-inch polished forged aluminum rims and beefy tires.
The new AWD system continuously monitors the wheel speeds and throttle position to determine the appropriate amount of power to send to the front of the truck to help prevent slip. Drivers can override AWD by simply selecting the locked mode.
Under the hood is a 5.4-litre, 3-valve Triton V-8 that turns out 300 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 365 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,750 rpm.
Based on an F-150 SuperCab configuration with a 6-1/2-foot Styleside box, the F-150 Harley Davidson's custom appearance features a unique chrome billet grille and blacked-out headlamps. Chrome-accented side tubes and a unique lower front valence, or chin spoiler, help create a lowered look. It also features heavyweight genuine zinc die-cast badges on the fenders, dark-tinted smoked-out taillamps, a blacked-out bumper and the "Harley-Davidson F-150" badge. Chrome tie-down hooks and a slash-cut chrome exhaust tip add more street-rod appeal.
Inside, black aniline leather seating surfaces, Captain's Chairs, high-gloss Piano Black surfaces on the centre stack and door panels, and a striking instrument panel featuring lots of chrome create a custom feel. A serialized nickel plate shows the vehicle's production date and number.
Ford said it will build up to 10,000 of the 2006 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCab trucks for sale throughout North America beginning next fall.
