We have decided to ditch the turbo zetec engine in our sedan race car and go with a naturally aspirated duratec. We should have the car running by the end of the summer.

We are currently flow testing 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 heads to decide on the best combinations. Physically the 2.5 intake ports are much larger than the 2.0

The final setup hasn't been decided as we are waiting on flow numbers from the different heads.

Could you guys post up some vid's?

Plus, excuse the newbness but what's up with the cut out areas at the top of the torque spikes?

It is where the rpm pickup on the dyno messed up. The pickup clamps around the spark plug wires like a timing light to read the engine rpms, if it gets a bad signal it will cause the torque reading to do that. It can be a pain sometimes.

I will get some videos hopefully the next time we tune on it. We didn't take any this last time, the tune is really unfinished so I did not see a point.
Cool, thanks Bryan.
I went out to the shop on friday and helped with the tune a little. We got the partial throttle and the lower rpm dialed In pretty good. We moved on to wot and fially got her to wind out to 9k! The power levels off about 8 but its not falling off at 9. I just hope the mtx75 will shift at that kind of rpm. We were just about to start adjusting timing when we realized we had run out of time.
damn. what crank is in it to spin that high?
Ok so you are using the 2.5 fusion motor. i have been wanting to do this swap but I have a concern. Will it bolt in without fabrication for motor mounts and will my mtx-75 trans from my 07 focus sedan 2.0 bolt to the 2.5 block? Can I use my original ecu and just reflash it for the new motor?

you need a focus 2.3 front cover to make it work correctly. The 2.5 front cover will make the engine crooked in the focus. Yes on the stock ecu. You cant use the 2.5 head unless you get rid of the VCT.

Big plans in the works for this. New header with larger primaries and new IM with more volume. Maybe a thinner head gasket. I think there is another 30-40whp left in it. Im ready to go RACING!

What do you mean by front cover? Do you know if my MTX-75 trans will bolt up to the 2.5L fusion block? Now also is the wiring the same? I know some plugs will be different and I am sure I can still use my current coil packs but what about everything else? Is there gonna have to be some rewiring for certain plugs? As far as the head is concerned I guess I could just get the 2.3 head and just port and polish it and try to get it to the same specs as the 2.5 head if possible.
The front cover is what covers up the timing chain and seals it all up. The motor mount also attaches there. The 2.5 also will not allow the use of the focus power steering because the belt will hit the cover.

If you want to use a 2.5, you need to use a focus head and all focus accessories with a 2.3 front cover. You also will have to block off an oil passage way in the block, when you go to the focus head.

The actual 2.5 block is virtually identical to the 2.3 externally, so transmissions and other parts bolt right up.

Why do you need to use the Focus head? Is it solely because of the VCT? The 2.5 head is one of the main reasons I am researching a 2.5.
Yes. Most people are not going to be able or will want to even try and get it working in their Focus. If you use a 2.3 head it is very simple to get going in a Focus.

But of course you could use a 2.5 head if you want to go down that road.
I honestly would probably just delete the VCT if I could. See - http://forums.focaljet.com/duratec-tuning/670630-2-0-modding-2-5-build.html

If you have anything to add, I'd appreciate it.

We are working on another 2.5 build that we will be using the 2.5 head and deleting the vct. I will keep you updated.
Thanks, Chris. Honestly, the thing I would really like to see is flow bench numbers on the 2.5 head vs the 2.3 head. That way we'd all know how much trouble to put into using the 2.5 head.
Like ford going 2.0 head on the 2.3 in the ranger. Build TQ.. So a 2.3 head & 2.5 block would build great TQ then the 2.5 head & 2.5 block. Seen a 2.5 Fusion with FSwrks satge 2 kit make 290hp / 306tq at 8psi boost
I'm very interesting to do a 2.5l fusion/escape swap in my '05 Focus duratec. I just want a stock 2.5l

This is possible to create a ''to do list'' with the necessary parts to swap a stock 2.5l in a focus duratec body

Sorry for my english :D

Thank you!!

I have a 2.5 in my Fusion 6MT. The last thing it needs is to be biased more towards torque. Perhaps that isn't the fault of the head, but the engine isn't sporty in character. Nice mid-range punch, but it feels a lot like a stock Zetec - out of breath when you really want it to go the most.

I agree.
