We found a website that lists the transmission torque ratings for the focus transmissions. This is directly from the manufactures website. I had to convert the nm to tq.

MTX75 254.42 tq.
SVTF transmission MMT6 331 TQ

SVTF transmission MMT6 331 TQ
For those with liquid transaxles:

4F27-E automatic - 270 lb/ft

Dunno about the '05 or newer Duratecs, but the 2.3 PZEV Duratec diff's spiders are a little stronger.

If I'm not mistaken, Terry Haines explained that once the stock differential is replaced the MTX75 would easily handle more torque then the Getrag.

I was just discussing this topic with one of my auto instructors at school the other night. He works for Ford, as an engineer, dealing only with transmissions. He told me the 4F27E(Focus ATX) can handle 270 lb/ft of torque, he also said the manual transmissions in the Focus, the MTX-75 and the SVTF Getrag are not produced by Ford, but bought from other companies, with Getrag being the manufacturer on the SVTF gearbox. He told me the manuals are garbage. I don't know, as my Focus is the 4F27E ATX, and I have no experience with either Focus manual gearbox.

That is straight from a guy who deals with these things every day at his full-time job, so I'd be inclined to beleive him, now if you beleive me or not, that is entirely up to you.

Just thought I'd share.

Can you elaborate on that? How exactly are the manuals "garbage", other than the MTX-75's glass differential?

Care to share the name of your instructor?

Regarding the automatic's limitations, P-51 explained it a couple years ago. This is from the "how much power..." sticky:

P-51 said:
As has been mentioned, the 4F27E was designed for 270 ft-lbs AFTER torque converter multiplication. The torque converter multiplies the torque by almost 2, so the transmission is at it's design limit with a Zetec.

He did not elaborate on as to why the manuals are 'garbage' as he put it. He could have been referring to said differential, I don't know for certain.

And, no, I will not post his name out of respect for him.
