is there such a way / process to take a normal turbo and make it belt driven?

i saw on here a picture of a ztec with this kind of setup in one of the many build threads but i cant find it anymore.. im sortta new to the concept of turbos, but i think ive got the basics down. if anyone could enlighten me that would be really awesome!

yeah thats what im talkin about, but i saw one on what looked like either a duratec or a svt that had the turbo in the top picture; but no box, just a blue duct to the throttle body.

well thanks for schooling me on all this guys, its a pretty cool concept i think, and a great alternative to turbocharging. so how much would one of theese system's set somebody back?

so pretty much mixed rivews, thanks a bunch to everyone for all the info!! im gonna take a look at different turbo kits from both the sponsors and ebay; any kits in particular that are more "bang for your buck" (reliable and light on the wallet)? im not going to do any extreme boost system, i just wanna 10 psi and below.

well, i have a split port, in a 2000 se 4door.... now before i get crucified for asking about a turbo on a pointless split port, i just wanna make it clear that this is probably gonna be a permanet engine in my car as i probably wont have the money to get my duratec swap seeing as the duratec i got from my dads wrecked st is in horrid condition and probably wont last a thousand miles.

That changes EVERYTHING. For an SPI you will need to do a custom turbo. Its not pointless unless YOU think it is. I believe the escort forums will have a bit more thorough info for the SPI but there are plenty of helpful chaps here as well. I would first look to making sure yours isnt one of the ones that drops a valve. Do an extensive investigation of your current engine condition to include compression tests. I'd say look to ebay only for piping. The other pieces, get from a reputable place. And dont overlook the classified section.
thanks blkthunder, my split port is the original engine that came with my car back in 2000, its got roughly 87k miles and it runs really good, the most ive done to the engine is CAI, msd coil, intake runner shorted open, and a fuel controller. its a pretty solid engine for the most part, and i believe ( or would really like to believe) that ive probably got 20 more horsepower over stock.
its the # 4 valve i believe that gets dropped but i haven't encountered anything like that so before i even buy any turbo components i'm gonna probably rebuild the head.

there are a few boosted SPI's hanging around.
hope they chime in.
yeah, that would be amazing if i could get in touch with someone who has done this major upgrade, i have friends who are gonna help me who know 30x more than i do about turbo-charging, but id like to get the info from a focal jet guy who knows what hes talking about and knows focuses (or foci).

Not to rain on your parade, but you did not pull 20hp from a CAI and the other "mods" you listed. For one, MSD coil packs have been shown not to add any power.
thats why i said id really like to believe, if anything it could be between 2-10 hp, and the msd coil seemed to add power on my car but it might just be me.

Also, what do you mean by fuel controller? Do you mean something like SAFC Neo? Changing the fuel trims on a stock motor without changing spark is pretty much going to do nothing.
what i mean by a fuel controller is the efp fuel controller, it increases and reduces the resistiance to the MAF sensor which tells the ecu to increase the fuel flow or decrease it. i think its based off barometric pressure or something of the sort to (theoreticailly) simulate the car being at a higher altitude/ in thinner air. im not sure about anything here, this is all purely speculation based on my understanding of how it works.

Lastly, just trying to be real here, if you don't have money for a Duratec swap, then how do you have money for a turbo setup? A turbo will be cheaper, but it's still going to be a few thousand dollars if you want it done right.
the duratec i got is free, my dad wrecked his 06 st when he got rear ended by a drunk driver at a stop light, the engine wasnt really maintained well, and it was in pretty bad shape... so instead of putting all the money into the engine that i have saved up, im just gonna go turbo'd on my split port and enjoy my car the way it is. if all goes well, i might even try to just transfer all the st parts onto some cheap 4 door and have a second focus or just sell it; if i cant, im sure someone would be willing to buy the street edition parts off of it and probably the transmission. but thats still super far off in the distance and im not sure of anything yet.

its escort - focus performance, its a website that has some parts for foci and escorts, its sortta expensive. but they have good hard-to-find parts for the split port focus and some parts for the ztec engine.
