And you can't compare that turbo kit to Tom's. All you guys were going off of is what the guy said. Personally I wouldn't invest in something like that without seeing proof. I don't know a lot about turbo's..know more about superchargers. But, Tom has proven his kit time and again and he has dyno numbers and track numbers to prove it.
If you are willing to spend the money on Tom's kit, I am sure you won't have the same experience as your buddy did. But take it to the track where it is fair and setup for drag racing.

Is'nt a T3/T4 kinda big 7 pounds? Could'nt he make the same power but less time wasted with a smaller faster spooling turbo?

The t3/t4 is really too big for a fairly stock zetec. In my opinion you could get much better from a smaller, faster spooling turbo. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to turbos.

at 7psi a t3/t4 is just barley getting started spooling.

My buddy has a T3/T4 Hybrid on his 4G63, it does'nt even think about spooling untill 4 grand, but when it does...*$#% But hes running 20+ pounds, 7 would just be a waste.

Im running a T3/T04b, 48 trim. I put down 180hp/190tq at 6psi and 210/220 at 9psi. That was with the stock cams and all that jazz.
It does not react like an 82 trim T3/T04e. There are alot of different trims, a/f's, housings, ect. Its a broad statement to say all T3/T4's are too big for a Focus.
I'm happy with my setup. Lag isnt a problem at all, just ask any of the SRT-4 guys around here

I run a regular T3 on my car with a .63 exhaust and .60 compressor. The turbo actually spools too fast for me. 1st gear is virtually useless. You hit rev limiter before you can even think about shifting. It works really well for me. But like someone said, I suppose a T3/T04 with a really small exhaust ar might work ok.

What do you have for tuning would be my first question
Casper wont like this but i also feel that a t3/t4 style turbo is a little old school and will Deffinatly be slower spooling ,not to say they wont make good power it just takes a little longer to get there
I have worked with the F-Max and the older kits that they have had a not well thought out turbo on them and i will let it go at that

I guess I'm just confused while I read FJ and take in what others are experiencing with their Foci. Personally I plan to start parting together a turbo kit for my Focus, it needs a little extra fun. But I'm planning to run (what I read here) as a pretty large turbo. It looks like I may start with Tom's kit and add from there some personal design flares, like my own tubular manifold. I have yet to see a good tubular manifold design available for the focus. The AEBS one pictured recently is NOT a good design by any means.
If I'm seriously missing something here, please chime in. I am not as familar with the Focus powertrain as some of you are. I'm forced to take what I have learned on other engine platforms and bridge it over to my ZX3. Some of it will work and some might not.
PS. so far FJ has been a great source to read. I enjoy it very much. I will say that you guys have a much better tollerance and manner (nicer) than the other boards I usually visit. Thanks

I'm going to agree with this guy, I may not be a Focus expert by any means but I have been building turbo engines for quite along time on other platforms. With my other car the T3/T4 hybrid turbos are common place compared to the general T3 family turbos. Although T3's are used alot on street cars for quick spool set-ups.
