a friend of mine was looking to replace her totaled escort with a focus. she ended up getting a 2000 focus se. She said when she was looking, that the zx3's cost more than the se did. anybody have any suggestions why this may be? Keep in mind that she picked up a used vehicle and was solely looking used, not interested in a new vehicle.
p.s. she isn't into modification either, so no chance of her signing up!
that seems odd just that the spi engine would be considerably cheaper than a zetec engine. because i checked out the ford website, and comparing just an se comfort w/ zetec to a zx3 fully loaded, and the zx3 still remains a few hundred cheaper...
perhaps its because the ZX3 is still in some people's minds and by some people's tastes an "economy" model.
but as to your original question, the SPI engine is definitely what is causing the greater price difference.
In the focus the Zetec is one of those strange options that don't lose value. At one point in time you could just order the Zetec in the SE sedan for about $200. According to online blue book, that options adds about $200 to the value of a USED focus.
Just recently I checked on the value on my car, and just the HID headlights, and Mach 500 sound system, and the 16 inch wheels (Mach edition), added almost $1000 to the value of my car. To get a "mach edition" focus in the first place was $999 MSRP over a standard ZTS sedan.
As for sedans being cheaper, well that would be true if you found allot of LX sedans. They are pretty much the most stripped focus. Equal equipped foci sedan VS. Hatch, The sedan tends to be more $$$.
