I just got this email:

Greetings from the Triangle Z Club

As 2003 nears an end, most of our thoughts are on the holidays. Well, be sure to add some track time to your wish list for 2004… and it’s not too soon to start planning. On the contrary – there’s one event you may need to get a holiday advance on.

That event is the 2nd annual John Mullis Memorial HPDE and Time Trial presented by the Triangle Z Club and the Tar Heel Sports Car Club. It will be held February 14-15 on Virginia Int’l Raceway’s FULL Course configuration.

Registration is now open. Cost for the driving school is $265 for those of you driving Z cars or those of you who are members of either host club… otherwise, it’ll be $285. for those of you familiar with VIR, anything less than $300 for Full-course is a bargain (check it out at www.virclub.com). We also offer a Solo I style time trial for qualifying cars and drivers (www.timetrials.net). This event will fill up fast, so get your entry in early.

You’ll get three hours of track time and three hours of classroom instruction/discussion over the course of the weekend. We separate participants by experience, so it’s very first-timer friendly. For the school, the only requirements are a safe car (must pass our safety inspection), a helmet that is Snell rated M95 or better, and long pants & sleeves of natural fibers. (It will be cold, so dress warm.)

Please email me if you have any questions – more info as well as entry and technical forms can be found at www.triangleZclub.com or www.timetrials.net.

See you on track !!

Stacy King
Track Events Coordinator
Triangle Z Club, NC

I should be there instructing, and I believe Gary K is looking into it as well. Lets see if we can get more Foci than last time, I would love to give you guys some ride-alongs and some instruction.

Re: VIR - Back in the saddle again

I SO Wish I could say I'm in......
Image

I've been dreaming of racing for the last week + .....
I skipped a charity Auto-X today due to lack of funds, and w/ a Son on the way, as well as a House, my Track-time is on Hiatus for awhile. I'm just HOPING to do the Fall-Fling next year. That's probably the earliest I could possibly siphon funds toward MY fun times....

Re: VIR - Back in the saddle again

Isn't there snow down there at that time?

I'm interested, I should be able to have the car up and running. If not, throw the R's on the SE and have at'er.

Might be. We got snowed out this year. Still, if you haven't been paying attention to the videos(

), any chance to drive VIR Full should be taken.

Re: VIR - Back in the saddle again

Sounds like a nice birthday present to myself. As soon as I come up with the cash, I will register. And if it snows, I will wear my snow tires.

Oh man, I'd love to make this event but it's too soon after the wifey's annual post Xmas shopping spree plus its on Valentine's Day!!!

Big NO NO for me, if I ever want to see another track event again, I'll have to spend that day with the wife not the focus!

Alright looking over the information again. As I read it, $22 for membership to the THSCC, and that makes the event $265, down from $285. Does anyone have any opinion on the extra $2 bucks it would cost to join?

#13 ·
Yeah, do the $22 as you can then do other schools with them. Members have their own forum that can be quite informative. Plus, as a THSCC member, you get a discount on Carbotech pads, including free delivery to you on track weekends from Carbotech engineer and all around nice guy, Matt Nicholson. Also, THSCC has membership reciprocity with the TZC (Triangle Z Club) and MAARC (Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club) so that you get into their schools at the member rate too. Between the three, I think that is about 6 schools a year, so, IMO, the extra $2 has a good chance of returning itself.

If all that doesn't convince you, remember that most clubs give members priority when a run group or school fills up. That $2 may keep you off a waiting list.

If you are going to join, do so on January 1, as THSCC memberships are based on a calendar year (you get a 2004 membership Jan to Dec) not on a rolling 12 month (Sept 03 to Sept 03, for example) year like most clubs. If you join on Dec 31, you pay one year for one day! (No, not really, they aren't like that, but get the point of what I am trying to say!)

hey rich, thanks so much for thinking of me. I can't think of anything I'd rather do right now........of course SoCal's two-day Streets of Willow Focus-Challenge this weekend ain't too shabby.

I got a "holly jolly Christmas" blind-side work lay-off this past Friday, completely blind-side, , probably meaning this is the last weekend of motorsports for me for a little while. That said, you will be picking me up at an airport one of these days, I promise!

Man, that sucks. Perhaps you can find a job closer to VIR so it won't be a plane flight! Shoot me a PM if you want some help in this (red)neck of the woods.

Murph, I'm so sorry!!! I got your Saturday night Dinner! And I'm sure we'll figure out other ways to make this weekend as painless on you as possible!

Hello all, i have a Zx2 so dont hate on me too bad but i like the site! I am going to try to find out if im going to be here on that weekend cause id love to go, but i am in the process of testing for the Las Vegas Metro Police and ill be there till the 14th i beleive but could be wrong. but anyway to the point, what kind of rules do they have for this, i mean it says the car has to pass their inspection, what all areas do they look at, i wanna make sure my car will pass b4 i get too excited on going. let me know thanks! Brett

Brett,
Your car will pass...
The ONLY thing I question is the Nitrous....
Do you have a helmet of your own??
If so, I'd say you're set if Tech is anything like it was at the G&W event that I attended. I think that wording is a "Cover our ass" statement.
You pass SCCA Auto-X Tech, so I'm pretty positive that you would pass theirs.
I'll let Rich (Team DFL) Confirm though...
List your mods please??
BTW, WELCOME To Focaljet!!!

I think there is a form that is on the website. I fyou are local, they hold free tech days that you can use to get a sticker. However, if you are not, you get you car inspected, hand in the form at the event, and the do a quick verification and you get one that way.

FYI, in this section of FJ, there is no hatred towards teh ZX2 or any car realy. Sorry I can't say the rest for all of them, but welcome anywho...
