Does anyone know what a stock hood weighs?

My stock hood weighs 26.5 lbs.

The Kaminari ram air carbon fiber hood I replaced it with weighs 18 lbs.

Aftermarket hoods vary a great deal in weight. Often the cheaper the hood is made (less attention to structural design; spatter gun fiberglass vs hand laid fiberglass), the less it tends to weigh.

Kaminari hoods, for instance, are not great weight savers. However, they have sound structural integrity and are all hand laid fiberglass with a full carbon overlay.

You can often realize a much higher weight savings with a budget hood.

SO ur not shaving alot of punds by swaping to cf hood then..
Well, the thing is that you really can't buy a full-carbon hood. The real thing only weighs 3 or 4 pounds, but they shatter into pieces with any mild impact, even large hail. So virtually all aftermarket hoods for the Focus are carbon layed over fiberglass.

dare I say that word VIS. I belive there all carbon you can also check out fiber images
From VIS' website:
"The underside of each OEM hood is reinforced fiberglass with a one-piece fiberglass covering the underling skeleton to provide a clean factory look."

I don't know about Fiber Images, because their website requires a login to view the main page. :screwy:

You wouldnt save much weight, but you can help the engine run somewhat cooler with a vented hood and everyone agrees they look HOT. Well some hoods are just butt ugly.
well that is true...but i was gonna get a cf hood, but the OEM look..
