Well folks, I\'m back - I own a Furd again!

Well, not that I ever really left - I've continued hanging out here after I got the Jetta 1.8T Wagon back in September of '01. But I'm back in the Ford fold once again. SO! What did I get? An SVT Focus? A supercharged Mustang Cobra? A Lightning???

Nope.
A 97 Taurus. NO, it didn't replace the Jetta; that one's alive and well. My dad knew I had been looking for a commuter beater (my poor 2002 Jetta already has 41,000 miles on it) and also that I want to get away from rental life and buy a house later this year, so he said to save my money and just GAVE me his old Taurus! Lucky me!

A helluva lot nicer than the beaterz I'd been looking at, and this Taurus is in perfect shape despite its 150K miles. Unlike many of our Foci, this one's never even been to the dealer for any kind of warranty claim, nor has it ever needed any kind of repair. Imagine that - Toyota-like reliability in a Furd!

It's way too dark right now, so I'll post pics in the morning.

well i am glad that your back to driving a ford, even though it's not a focus!! i mean with all the cool cars you get to see every day i could imagine that the taurus is far from par of the other vehicles! well hope you enjoy the car, and i hope that it takes good care of you and helps with your goal of slowing mileage on your jetta

A bunch of guys in my house have Taurus'. Ill tell ya they can take a beating and come back for more. Pallettes of beer in the trunk, R to D drops, general insane driving. That's one tough car.

I'm back in a Ford again, too, and it is a Focus! However, it is temporary until I get my Civic back.

I will have to admit, I did find a 2001 or ’02 5-speed wagon for sale around here for a half-way decent price … but I have to see what they find out about my Civic.

Haha - no mods for this one - it's just a commuter.

Well, ok, just two. Because Tauruses use that stupid oval control panel that encompasses both audio and climate controls, I had to buy that oval Scosche adapter that allows you to mount a standard size radio. 97 Tauruses never had the option of an in-dash CD player, so I had to get this $50 part in order to install one. I got a Blaupunkt Heidelberg, and I'll be putting it in over the weekend. It's gonna be a beeatch to install because the stock Taurus radio is actually mounted in the trunk, meaning that the antenna and speaker wires will need to be routed up to the front. Ford did not make it easy for those who didn't wanna be stuck with a cassette player.

The other mod will be Taurus Special Service center caps.
In other words, I'll pull off the wheel covers and put these silver center caps on, and it'll look like a cop car.
I've seen them on ebay before, so I just need to keep looking.

You can use the EATC unit from the SHO or SE models which almost always come with controls for the 6 disc CD changer. To this a few Clarion and Pioneer models will hook right up to it.

The radio itself for this stereo resides in the trunk, the oval pod is just a "keyboard".

hope it's a 5-speed. I'm surprised an automagic has made it to 150K.
