Man i really dont know what they were thinking with the rx8, in my opinion they really messed up, no offense to owners of one, they look good and all but they are sloooow, man my expectations were really high for this car till i ran one (legally, let me just add) and i just took him to school, i couldnt believe it so we ran again same thing, we ran about four times and he didnt even come close

my mods are a vortech with intercooler, and basically every other thing you can think of no nitrous, the rx8 had many bolt ons he said before we ran, i dont know im just disapointed with mazda

Am i the only one!!??

RX8s aren't about pure straight line speed. However, there aren't many cars that can keep up with one when the roads get twisty.

Performance is much more than just 1/4 mi. times!

I could understand that but im still disapointed esspecially the fact that many of the owners of an rx8 that i meet talk so much about how they whoop alot of cars and i have a rotary and blah blah blah bottom line in a straight line they are not holding it up.

Quoted for accuracy and truth.

....bottom line in a straight line they are not holding it up.
That's okay, straight line racing is a waste of effort anyway.

I've never been fond of the RX-8 (mostly because of the rear doors), but my attitude has been changing since I've noticed how well they've been doing in Solo II B-Stock.

Well guess what Einstein, an SRT-4 will hand you your ass on a platter.

Who freakin' cares?

It's great that you're a huge fan of the twisties but there's no need to constantly bash 1/4mi racing. We all know you love to autocross, we get it.

Drag racing is a viable and fun autosport activity and many people, myself included, get a huge rush from it. I don't get into autocross but I've got a ton of respect and vicarious joy for those of you that do.

I'll add this, I played a little cat and mouse with a riced out craptastic RX8 the other day and the moment the road curved, he was gone forever, he didn't even hit the brakes.

As ugly as I think they are compared to the FD RX-7s, I have a whole new respect for the RX-8.

I would argue that they don't even handle that well. My dad races against them in auto-x. He does very well against RX8's in his basically stock G35 automatic coupe. He weighs more and doesn't have the control that the RX8's do, yet he hangs right with them (and they have every mod allowed for the class.)

It's a dissapointing car. The FD's were one of the most beautiful modern sports car a japanese manufacture has ever produced. They were fast, sleek and embodied what a sports car should be. The RX8 on the other hand, is underpowered, oddly styled, and still unreliable. Mazda, in their attempt to appeal to a more mass market completely lost sight of what the car should have been. That's prolly why you see so many sitting on dealer's lots.

Straight line is a legitimate measure of performance. Handling is equally important, and the RX8 doesn't dazzle in either area.

I saw a Mazda 2 yes a "2" today on the way home.

Its seems to me Einstein the topic is about rx8's not srt-4's so where are you coming from, and by the way i could probably take you too

im sure alot of people so to quote freakin care about that

My car is mostly stock except for brakes, suspension and tires.

I'm sure you could take me too.

The RX8 is very, very ugly.

Looks like it was designed by a bunch of committees that never met.

"OK, you are in charge of fake vents...you guys do all the little rotor motif things, we'll do various grillwork and stuff,....."

Perhaps, but it is polarizing, as a car should be. Some love it, some hate it. All good cars are like that IMO.
absolutely...if a car is in between, it will never be remembered or thought of

me personally, love the style of the car, glad they kept the rotary (be happy, how many companies are doing away with the heart of old edition cars brought back...for example, new supra is said to carry a V8

)

the engine is a bit weak but im sure they will do it up in the future with a turbo model...and there are some very SICK turbo systems out there already that will take car of most opponents on the street/strip

Everyone loves an FD till they have one. mazda went retarded and went for so much weight loss they left alot of the radiator and intercooler on the designe room floor. thus giving the rotary even more of what it hates "HEAT". the rx8 is a great handler and mazda just posted too high of output numbers for it just wait for the 2007 rx7
drool basically a more agrgresive 2 door turbo rx8

Perfectly stated... otherwise you have a bunch of Camrys and Accords. How many people have said "I LOVE the styling of the Camry!". It's just not inspiring.
I like everything about the RX-8, except the rear doors.

Ill have to step in as an actual RX-8 owner to voice my opinions on the subject.

How do you know its the car and not the driver?

AutoX is more than just the car.

Ive met up with some G35's and havent had one be able to keep up with me in the twisties.

The RX-8 is not about 1/4 mile times.

If thats the kind of car I wanted I would have waited for the 05 Mustang.

FYI- The vents are not fake, they are functional.

Styling is a matter of opinion. You hate it, I think it is the best looking car on the road, bar none.
