What\'s the \"best\" family car out there?

I'm talking wagons, SUVs (I don't like but have to at least consider) and "mini"-vans...

I like the protege5, the new nissan quest seems neat, A4 Avant.
Are they bringing the Mazda 6 wagon to the states?

Subaru Forester, I've heard there vary safe, and I think they will bring over the STI version to the states! Nothing like a family car with power!

1984 Buick Century, Wagon. 4.3L Diesel, Olympic Edition.

Current cars? I think almost all the new minivans are super safe, and the saab wagons are just plain cool.

I am kinda liking the new Pacifica too. I thought it looked nasty in the pictures, but after seeing them in real life, it isn't a bad looking wagon.

My wife is considering the XC90 T6 AWD. Its a Volvo so you know its a safe vehicle.

Less expensive and smaller?
’03 Civic (good crash ratings)
2004 Suzuki Aerio SX (155 hp, excellent crash ratings)

Toyota Corolla S
Mazdaspeed Protege (maybe)

Mazda RX-8 (the backseat is roomier than you think)

If they come out I would ad the Mazda6 wagon, the '05? STi Legacy Wagon, the Acura TSX Wagon.

I would be happy to have any of the above sitting in my driveway.

I will quote you on it. Car and Driver says so. Nothing like a wagon that does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and is only slightly more expensive than an Escape.

if i needed a family vehicle,,,,that was an suv,,,,porsche cayane turbo,,,,fully loaded,,,0-60 in like 5.5 sec..oh yes very kool,,,,only problem is the $90k sticker for the one i would want

I don't like SUVs OR minivans. With a small family, a Focus would do wonderfully. Practical, fun to drive, fuel efficient, and I love my Focus.

With a larger family, I'd look at bigger sportwagons...
Audi A4 wagon,
BMW 3 series,
Volkswagen Passat,

OR a mini-ute like the Ford Escape, Honda CRV, or Subaru Forester.

the matrix is a pretty nice family car. i was trying to convince my buy to get one but she wanted the corolla insted.

While it may not seem pratical to some, an old muscle car era wagon would be really cool to fix up. That is as long as it has all of the modern aspects updated on it. Or a more recent RWD wagon that you can fix up with nice wheels and paint ala gangsta. Would be cheaper than new and isn't giving in to that whole resposiblity aspect completely.

The WRX wagon makes me want to have kids.
