Hey I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on this, mostly for launch...if I don't get the take off just right I terd right off the start, I'm not used to not having a tach! Even both my buddies newer autos have tachs, how lame is ford for not putting a tach in!

Once FocusSport has the 2.0 duratec SCT flasher, you can probably get a dual-stage RPM limiter for perfect launches every time. I have it on my '00 ZX3 and it's the stuff. Holds your RPM's just right when you're not moving, then lets you wring it out once you get going. I don't know the right shift speeds for you, it depends on a lot of variables. As much as I despise such large, garish add-on tachometers, a tach and shift light might not be a bad idea.

yea but it stays on till the car is shut off, and it's incredibly hard to see those little numbers flying around and try to shift and watch the road as well.

welll on the way home from work today I pulled over and stuck on that digital tach just to try some launching. Low and behold I get into town and go to pass some 90s cavalier that sounded like a truck with a rice muffle, he speeds up and it turns 1 lane so I back off. We end up meeting at a stop light(2 lanes) and he starts the rev creep routine, so I of course ACCEPT
!

With that digi tach I got the most bad ass launch I've ever had,
I couldn't believe it. I tried to launch from around 1800rpms but was watching the light so I wasn't sure. I guess those lil numbers flying around do help haha
, anyway he had no chance....in no time I was 100ft ahead of him and increasing.

First off: FocalJet doesn't condone street racing. If you put a story about street racing in a thread, it will probably get locked.

Second: 1800 rpms? That's WAY low, especially on a 2.0. I go up to 4,000 for my 2.3, and a smaller engine should probably go a little higher.

it wasnt street racing, it was a stop light heading out to the country (last one). It was a 40mph zone, after I hit 50 and he wasnt near me I slowed down and flashed my brakes, he flashed his daylights in return.

back to the shifting, using the digi tach how high can you safely shift into the rpms? I tried going up to 3500 on the digi and it seems to do fine. any suggestions, exhaust is only mod

Are you kidding? Your engine revs to well over 6,000 rpm safely.

In a stock Duratec, you'll probably want to shift around 6k. The cams make power drop off a lot after that.

if I went to 6000 with that digi I wouldnt shift to 2nd till around 40mph, i dont know how the digi tach works when switching gears but no way I'm shifting at 6grand off the digi.

Uh... okay. But in my 2.3 I can stay in 2nd until I'm doing at least 50 mph. You're driving a four cylinder; you have to rev it if you want to go fast.

It has a rev limiter, and short of missing a shift, you can't hurt it.

Rev it to hell and back... that's what it is designed for. My 2000 ZX3 sees the 7100RPM limiter almost daily, and it has 103k solid miles.
