Tiny little Combat Comm base in Costa Mesa, Calif. J20000 has seen it, he blinked and missed it the first time.
Formerly an F-15 Chief, now I run a vehicle maintenance shop, but going back as a Predator Chief (that should be weird with a plane that has a 24 hour turnaround...LOL).

Regular Army
Infantry Officer turned Acquisition Corps

I work ammunition programs for all small caliber weapons from .50 Cal to 5.56mm and 40mm Grenades. I've been in the acquisition biz for about five years now, involved in small arms the whole time. Back when I really WAS infantry, I commanded a Headquarters Company (battalion staff, scouts, mortars, medics, commo, maintenance, and cooks--a freakin herd of cats!) in the 101st Airborne Division (Air AssAULT). As a lieutenant I served in Berlin and in Schweinfurt. I learned the hard way that the fuel cut-off of my then-new 95 Contour SE was 112 mph.

And finally, I'm proud to inform you all that I started this whole Army thing way back in 1985 when my recruiter shipped me off for Basic Training at Ft Leonard Wood; yes, I've been an E1, E2, E3, and E4. I've cleaned more latrines than you've tossed off in, buffed more floors than you've buffed... um... out, and can STILL recite my 3 General Orders (I will guard everything within the limits of my post...)

Supply NCOIC

It's a total step down for me getting back into Supply but whatever, it pays the bills. Just got back from Camp Humphries, Korea in January
I was supply back when it was 76Y. For much of my time I ran the unit arms room. I fielded the M16A2, the M9 pistol and the M249 SAW when they were new.

Tyndall AFB, FL (about to PCS to Tinker AFB, OK)
AD AF
my AFSC is 92T2 until wednesday, when I pin on as a 13B1 Air Battle Manager (8 months of tech school sucks...and I've got another 5+ at Tinker)
2Lt. Technically I'm a student right now, but when I get to Tinker I'll be aircrew on the AWACS (E-3 Sentry). The really short version is that I talk to pilots and tell them whats going on in the air.

^^^^ i knew we had to have an ops person somewher on here. have fun in your airconditioning when you deploy to the desert:p. but on a real note, from what i hear you may have a hard time staying in the military if you choose to. i know they are cutting alot of junior officers in active duty. anyways be nice to your crew chief and buy him a beer when you go tdy for all the hard work he does that you dont see. oh and be nice to the rest of your maintenance crew to they would appreciate it, but ESPECIALLY your crew chief;)

But your right about re-upping, the AF is cutting back hard, i've been keeping up on the numbers and for CJR's 1800-2000 ppl applying per month, and only 90 or so are given out :(

Yeah, I really need to. One of my buddies is married to an E-3 maintainer.

13B's are pretty well protected from the big cuts. The field has been critically undermanned for about a decade, and just recently has it gotten up to minimum manning. There are only about 1500 of us, but we're the ones who plan the air war nowadays. The guys who flunk out of the tech school are almost guaranteed a ticket back home though, unless they want to go Blue to Green.

For comparison, I know Security Forces officers took a big hit (and now we have contractors manning the gates...???), but Airfield Ops is losing about 80% of their CGOs. 80% of them are getting cut. Yikes. I do not envy those guys.

Of course there is OPs on here to, so we'll have to give them some love to! ha ha
