Which Duratec Header???

9459 Views 41 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  hEaT
Any one know what best primarys for the Duratec?

Focus Central and Draxas had 1 5/8" OD primaries

Focus Sport, Cosworth, and OBX has 1 7/8" OD primaries

F2 has 1 3/4" OD primaries.

I think 1 3/4" as F2 does is the best

1 5/8" is a slight increase over stock

1 7/8" as the Cosworth has and OBX (direct copy of Cosworth) is too big

will kill your t/q

Thats why Cosworth added this with their cam package, as the cams
added that much more air thru the header.

"Best" would be subject to you needs/requirements. Nobody has tested them all on one car, on one dyno, etc. so there isn't a really cut and dry answer. There is a lot of speculation out there, however. ;)

I had no issues with the Cosworth header on my 2.0L even before cams.

If there is a torque loss, it is imperceptible while driving (at least to me), while the upper RPM power gains are certainly there.
I say go with the Focus Sport. They make some great products everything I own of there's is top notch! Not to mention the customer service is one of the best around.
Thanks for the input.

I know Focus Sport makes a great product, other wise they would not be arouns like other companies that have since dissapeared.

I 've had a OBX on my old Zetec Focus and its a cheap SS it WILL rust!

I am looking for a header that will compliment a duratec without cams

If you have cams the 1 7/8 Primaries are the way to go.
f2, i have their header and love it

Kudos to focus sport!!I agree..go with the focus sport headers that's what I'm running on my 04 duratec 2.3l..
I would of had the FS header the week after FOTB but i broke my arm and now stuck with Hospital bills.. but i soon that i get better im getting that header.

Guys, its FocusSport...all one word.
Opps sorry!
Does anyone know the size of hte exhaust ports on a duratec head???
Sure there is speculation or what have you but since the question was asked....F2 has had the header out longer than anyone and with the most success as well....we designed our own header for the focus. But as always the competition is great...the choices are there....
I was all set to get a OBX, but it looks kinda short, like a shorty header. Plus i have read it mya hit the power steering line.

I am leaning toward the F2 header, due to the Price, SS, Coated and the lenght also the primaries looks like they will work best. If they get too big such as 1 7/8" you will actually lose power. I know this from testing headers on my last Focus and Civic.

Hell I'll buy both and figure it out my self lol
So since I have the fs header should I get the cams to gain back the power? my car has 86xxx miles is it worth buy aftermarket cams?

You are fine. Worst case you lost some low end torque. Worst case. You'll make it up on the big end.

Cams don't hurt though.
what do you mean in the big end? sorry for the stupid question but what are cams for?

So the F2 header is stainless AND coated? Made in the USA? Includes a flex? Something doesn't sound right. I'd guess the header is not completely stainless, the flanges are probably steel. Coating a high grade stainless header doesn't make any financial sense if you are selling it for $285.

What do you say Ricardo?
Sure it makes sense Randy..it is my way of offering something different, just like the Turbo Downpipes that are stainless I am also coating them. I have done so much coating for so many years that it makes perfect sense to add that little extra.

Yes the header is made in the USA...just like my intakes and turbo pipes....the same place that makes the stuff for ATP turbo and used to make the intakes for other big name companies that went to china after. the flex section I get from the same place you guys get your turbo's from ATP....my flanges are all made in the City of Commerce and the parts are assembled in West Covina.

The price I put is to be competitive with the OBX header...the company that makes for me is tired of China products as am I so we worked out a deal to make them here and keep it competitive but my margin is very low but that is my issue.

But to me a header without the flex section does not make any sense either but that is me.....
