Which Duratec Header???

9460 Views 41 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  hEaT
Any one know what best primarys for the Duratec?

Focus Central and Draxas had 1 5/8" OD primaries

Focus Sport, Cosworth, and OBX has 1 7/8" OD primaries

F2 has 1 3/4" OD primaries.

I think 1 3/4" as F2 does is the best

1 5/8" is a slight increase over stock

1 7/8" as the Cosworth has and OBX (direct copy of Cosworth) is too big

will kill your t/q

Thats why Cosworth added this with their cam package, as the cams
added that much more air thru the header.

Does anyone know the size of hte exhaust ports on a duratec head???

can anyone amswer this??
Randy & Recardo thanks for you input, not trying to start a war

everyone has their own designed header which is good for us consumers

differences are good. Thus whay OBX doesnt have a say, they just copied the Cosworth piece, and includes two flex pipes one for MTX and one for auto cars.
No war being started I don't take it that way at...competition is good for all of us....I am glad people have choices....I am also customer so I like to have choices as well...

I will get the exhaust port openings here if I can....

Also on a side not totally of topic...Randy do you still have that IPOD touch available? Sorry for asking here..thanks

Sure it makes sense Randy..it is my way of offering something different, just like the Turbo Downpipes that are stainless I am also coating them. I have done so much coating for so many years that it makes perfect sense to add that little extra.

Yes the header is made in the USA...just like my intakes and turbo pipes....the same place that makes the stuff for ATP turbo and used to make the intakes for other big name companies that went to china after. the flex section I get from the same place you guys get your turbo's from ATP....my flanges are all made in the City of Commerce and the parts are assembled in West Covina.

The price I put is to be competitive with the OBX header...the company that makes for me is tired of China products as am I so we worked out a deal to make them here and keep it competitive but my margin is very low but that is my issue.

But to me a header without the flex section does not make any sense either but that is me.....
Actually, we don't buy turbos from ATP, we are a Garrett Kit Manufacturer as is stated on Garrett's website, we deal direct:

You didn't really answer the question. Are ALL of the flanges on your header and flexpipe stainless steel? Is ALL of the tubing? What grade of stainless? Is this particular header you are selling 100% stainless steel?

I know what it costs to make a high quality header in the USA that is 100% stainless, is coated, and includes a flexpipe, that is why I'm asking.
Cool on the IPOD....just asking...
As for the other stuff....well at one point you did buy from ATP, I will restate that....

The header uses 301 stainless for good welding and is stronger than 304 stainless....
On the first batch of stainless header we did not use SS flanges but we did half way through this last batch and the new batches to come will also be SS, the only reason on the last batch I did not is because I had stock of the steel flanges which we make 200 at a time laser cut. We also make headers for Mazda's so that us why we make so many...in turn cuts cost at the end..

The SS ones are water jet since they are 3/8" stock. I also know what it cost lets say to have the header made by Headman headers which I take the headers to get coated at the same place they do. Or if you do the running around yourself and get the pieces yourself you can save some cost that way...like I said we like to do a lot of the work ourselves to cut costs...coating is a small fee to pay so if anyone is paying $60.00 or more to coat a header you are paying way too much, but I will not get into costs as that is information for F2 only....so to answer the questions YES on all accounts here is a link for the ATP flex section....the rest of the stuff we make ourselves except the tubing of course...

Some are completely stainless and some are not. OK. I think it would be a good idea to make sure your customers or potential customers know what they are getting, but that is just my opinion.
On my 2.3, if anything, when I added the cosworth header I think I GAINED torque. Stock cams, FDR, everything but intake. It doesnt really matter THAT much.
We're talking a difference of like 5% max power change here, probably more like 1-2%. Pick which one meets your needs and opinions. I got the Cosworth because I want the best. I don't think anyone will deny that they are ultimate quality. Maybe you want the most cost effective, so you pick whichever that is.
thanks for the input as in the instructions it states if they are stainless or not....Cosworth has a great name and heritage and no one that sell headers here will ever come close to that name and heritage, too bad they stopped making them.
I'm glad someone started this cause I planned on buying a header for my car around Christmas. Sort of a gift to myself but was unsure of the differences between the F2 and the FocusSport.

If I understand this right. The FocusSport is larger and you lose some low end torque but gain the HP in the top end. But what about the F2. Do you not lose low end torque? What are the gains on the top end?

Wes
I'm not sure where the loss of torque/power notion from the large primaries comes from, but a Cosworth-header equipped Focus has a torque curve as flat as Kansas.
F2 all the way! I had 1st got mines when it was a higher price but now its $285 and it includes the flex pipe! No one can beat that! You'll enjoy F2s header i love it! Ricardo has great services, prices and products! : ) just make sure u get a couple Resonators cuz that puppy is LOUD! 3 exhausts tickets and still going strong! lol
i have the obx, its been on the car for about 2 or 3 months now and it isnt rusting. ive said this plenty of times, and im gonna say it again. if the f2 header had been this price when i got my obx, i would have an f2 header on my car.

and the focussport header, im sure is a good product, but it doesnt come with a flex pipe. so those of us that the flex doesnt seperate from the manifold have to spend that extra money. just get the f2. you will be happy with it.
You can use the stock flex with the FS header. Vik mentioned the header offers more gain than the flex.
^^^ It's absolutely worth having the flex but most of the gains are from the header & not the flex.

-Vik
Thanks. Stock to 2.5" flex is quite a bit of difference.
So I'm guessing that just speaking on headers it pretty much is just personal preference in the end. Guess since I'll be having to order a tune from FocusSport for this maybe it will be better to go with the FS. Hopefully they will have the flexpipes by then.

Wes
^^^ Actually we just recieved the flex pipes for the header. We just need to go through them and make sure they fit the fixture properly before they are shipped. They should be online by the end of the week, or call to place the order.

-Vik
either way you go....it's gonna be LOUD and illegal!!! keep that in mind especially in the god awful green states!!! but don't let a pony here or there decide which is best. take the better (more practical) product for you. if you are in a snowy/wet/salty area better make sure its a quality product with a good coating (f2/fs) just a hint!
