Every 2 or 3 years or so my team and I collab together to built up a car. Our last car was a CRX with a B16A engine which went very well but that was partically we have so much experience with Honda/ Honda motors. Our next project car (which we well begin next late spring) is going to be different. We want to make an ultimate sleeper car. We can't budget this car without a firm choice though so your opinions well be appriciated.Thanks!

So far here are our options..

1. Dodge Neon R/T (1996-1998)

2. Mitsu Mirage with DSM turbo engine (not sure if it would work but it'll be interesting)

3. Hyundai Excel with DSM turbo engine (that article in SCC was too appealing)

4. Cavilar Turbo (sure they're showing up everywhere but you never seen an Asian team do it

)

5. Old skool (90-93) turbo Ford Probe

or....

6. 95-98 Nissian 200sx SE-R (I favor this project..)

Nissan would get my vote, but it's just too easy. If you can make a respectable Cavalier, then I say go for that.

I would go with a Volvo 740 Wagon, make that bastard wicked fast.

Well, I got to admit their not the most dreadful cars out there to soup up but we do need some thing to go on. If I had the time and money I would soup up a Toyota Priva

but unfortuately our team doens't have that money nor convience.

The Mirage would be cool because they're easy to come by and they're not often very fast.

Another consideration – throwing something in a Tercel – heck, maybe turbocharge the exisiting engine.

People soup up 1st generation Probes so I don't think that'd be that different. What about a turbo Escort wagon? I've always thought it'd be cool to have a really fast Scort wagon! Heck – a Zetec swap into a wagon might be cool. Or an Escort GT engine into a wagon.

My sleeper idea that I've always wanted to do was to take the 4G63 turbo from a 1st gen Eclipse and put it in a Mitsubishi Expo LRV. The Japanese versions werer available with this engine, so I know it can be done. Axles and motor mounts would be the issue. I've got pics if you want them! I'd just love to smoke the crap out of a car with an Expo!

Old Volvo wagons will take small block V8s with relative ease. Build a 351 or something and stuff it in there.

I second the volvo! the TT Sonoma participated in last years viper challenge. I think it broke and DNF'd. but still, an amazing machine.

even though I like the mirages, especially better than our current lancers (base vehicles only, I still like the EVO), I've seen too many mirages turned into EVO 5's and 6's around here. I saw a great done one, with a poor paint job that made me stop, yeah, they turboed it, but low and behold, the rear brakes were still drums. I doubt you're group would be able to afford to make the mirage compete with the same year EVO of that model, so unless you can surpass what that years evo can do, you'll already be shot down.

Thanks for the input guys (and gals)!
I see that many of you like the Mirage idea as well as the Neon and SE-R ideas. Personally I love the Mirage idea and the outlay of the both the Eliscpe trubo engine and the stock Mirage engines are pretty much the same. I'm not sure about the wiring but the manchanics on my team are pretty good, they'll figure something out.

I always wanted to do a Neon too. Scott Mohler (the driver of the all motor Mopar Neon) has always been on of my heros when it comes to all motor cars. I alwaysed wondered how fast an all motor Neon can be.

As for the SE-R, I've heard of very fast SE-R turbo cars before. Yes Yes the SE-R's motor is a SR20DET w/o the turbo of course which makes it alot easier to tune and to powerize then the other cars. I just love the 7,200 redline and the poltential!

Keep the opinions coming...and yes a Volvo would be crazie! Only if we knew more about them...Plus I hate Volvos!

Only thing I can think of thinking about a sleeper is a Chevy S-10 pickup. They have V-8 conversions for it and your main problem with this tho, getting traction.
