Why do people steal Valve Stem Caps?

And why do they only steal 2 of the 4 Valve Stem Caps?! *******s! If you're going to steal them at least take all 4! This is the 2nd time someone has stolen just two caps from my wheel. The first 2 were the quality caps that came with my Motegi's. So I took the remaining 2 and put them on my Mountain Bike. Then I went with the cheap bastards from Pep Boys and someone stole, you guessed it, 2 caps once AGAIN. So now I've got to go buy a pack of 4 more Valve Stem Caps. Now I can understand someone wanting to steal my metal caps. But my girlfriends car has had her valve stem caps stolen 2 or 3 times now and they're just plain plastic. $.99 and people are too lazy or cheap to buy them? WTF?

You know how you do a stinky hand?

Do that same thing with the caps and next time, you'll get a little satisfaction over them being stolen.

On a serious note, I remember back in the early 90's. My step brother was always getting his "Chrome" stems stolen. I never understood why people would steal them either.

I remember in those days we also used Dice for our bike stems.

I wouldn't doubt it being kids though.

I remember I had a friend who used to steal the "Chromies" he had a whole box full of them. We'd put them on our bikes and tighten them down qith a 3/8" wrench so nobody could steal them lol.

I do not use them so I haev not had the problem. I would tighten thme dow or use blue thread locker on them.

I don't run caps on my autoX wheels. But you can't really do that in winter with -20 degree weather.

Over torqueing them would be an idea tho...

I used to have a nice pair of chrome stem caps with a vette emblem on my Predator- And I would only nab the 2 on the side of the car with the least visibility.

Back in grade school we were more concerned with trading valve stem covers then swapping grainy cell pics we con'd our (bitches aint buttin but hows & tricks) into taking.

Exactly. I couldn't figure it out. I can understand why someone would want to steal mine but hers? Plain old black plastic caps? I have no clue. Mine actually get stolen less than hers do.

I had some black powdercoated ones stolen off the Focus in the fall. They were $2 at Wal-Mart to replace the stolen chrome ones I used to run when my wheels were still silver. Those were worth $2 as well. They are cheap to replace, sure, but I get this urge to take the person that does this, tie thier legs to the brush guard on the front of my truck so that thier face is against the ground, then drive a few blocks as punishment. I'd start off really slow so they could walk with thier hands trying to save themselves, then gun it and leave a nice long red stripe.
