What profile? 45 series, 40 series? I found a site that said width range (of wheel) for a 235/45/17 is 7.5" to 9". Also said that for a 235/40/17 wheel width range would be 8" to 9.5". So given right offset and wheel width it should be possible as long as there is enough room in the wheel well.
235/45-17 would give the correct Mustang tire diameter. The 7" rims

ould be too narrow.
The reason I'm just tryign to get as much rubber on teh ground as possible...I'm already running the stock SVT tire size on my 7in, but I figured it could fit something at least alittle wider when I go a half inch wider with teh rim. I autoX and I would like to get a slightly winder stance as well as a larger contact patch. I was told that the Mazda Speed Protoge will take 245s!!!
Check with the tire manufacturer. Not all 235's are equal. I've seen a 235/40 on a 7" wheel and the tire was stretched just a bit. And if you auto-x, you definitely want to make sure the manufacturer says the tire will fit a 7" wheel. With the forces of autoxing, you wouldn't want to roll your tires under the wheel.
