World\'s Quickest Production Bike (and we have one)

We just uncrated one of the first V-rod Destroyers on the West Coast. According to several cycle magazines this is the quickest production bike in the world.

Motorcylist magazine ran a 9.02 at 147.8 mph in the 1/4 right out of the box. The test rider was not a pro drag racer but a magazine writer with no drag racing experience. People are already getting them into the 8 second zone with no extra work.

It sure seems like it would be a lot of fun. I have been contemplating all day how I can sneak it into the garage without the fiance knowing.

BTW, that is an air bottle for the Pingle air shifter.

Holy Freaking Flying Cows.

That's naturally aspirated?

What's the displacement?

Max revs?

How many shiifts before the bottle needs a refill?

Is the wheelie bar a dealer add on?

Yes, its naturally aspirated

It is 1300cc.

It should safely go to 10000, but Im sure power will be dropping off way before that. It should be launched at about 7500+ rpms.

One should be able to get about 800 shifts (or about 130 runs) before a refill. Dont quote me on that.

Pretty wild yes, but the bike comes with the wheelie bar. It would be needed utilizing a stock frame, running 8s.

What does that thing cost? Being a Harley-Davidson, it's got to be more expensive than most small cars.

Right around 30k (if you could get one. People are waiting in line for them). Not too bad for a Harley that runs 8s.

The AHDRA has started a racing class just for this bike.

I would love to have it. I could run it at least twice a week at the local track.

Thats crazy! BUT, regarding its title... its also probably the ONLY production bike in the world built for drag racing.

True. But it's just so American. It's garish, expensive, and stupid fast. HD finally proved that they can make a fast bike if they put their minds to it.

...and pay Porsche to design it.

LOL, true...

I think its cool to see a bike like Harley that is known for being slow, to be the fastest drag bikes in the world. They are cleaning up on the NHRA circuit.

Typical American vehicle, built to go in a straight line and nothing else.

Thank you...

What's the point. Bikes are more fun huggin' turns and draggin' knees.

And 4 cylinders are for going slow / getting good gas mileage? So what's the point of doing anything to make your Focus faster, if you take that point of view?

First of all, I've been helped by both you guys here on [FJ], so don't take this the wrong way:

What's the point of taking a stand with a tongue-in-cheek comment?

Step back a second and realize that there will always be niche-driven (pardon the pun), purpose-built vehicles. Harley's been doing amazing things in NHRA drag racing; why not offer those enthusiasts a specific model?

The V-Rod is actually a road bike anyway. I doubt that the geometry's been altered to the point of making it incapable of giving a good account of itself in the twisties and the wheelie bar is removable.

Either way, if that's how you really feel, then go buy a full-size 50 cc european cafe racer; they do exist. All kinds of corner speed, but no HP.

I would sure like to see the Motor Company let Erik Buell build a corner-carver around the V-Rod motor...I know its heavy and all, but nevertheless it'd be cool...a sport-tourer with a heavy emphasis on sport...

I'd park on next to my M2

Funny you say that, because Harley also builds the Buell XB series of bikes, some of the best handling bikes in the world.

Nice Photo chop Erik...LOL

I personally ride Honda bikes, but I have to give respect to H-D for all the work they've done with the V-Rod line of bikes. They've really made a statement with the V-Rod, and it's too bad the haters don't see that.
