I'd say drive your focus for at least as long as you were paying for it and not have a car payment. Then take the amount you're used to paying, put it in an acount and in 2-5 years you'll have a nice amount to put down on your next car.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">We have a winna! That's what I'm planning on doing. I also heart rotaries, so I'm leaning more towards the RX-8. Becides, rotaries sound awsome.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Top shelf 350Z is $34,000. Under 300hp, under 300lbft, weighs in at 3300lbs (?). Ill take an STI.

nah...there is no comparison with ALL WHEEL DRIVE...come on and 300HP/300FT/TQUE...no contest. i love the rotaries also my friend has a twin turbo'ed RX7...but come on the STI will destroy all others...a kid in my school just threw his tranny on his WRX and is puttin a down payment on the STI, i hate rich kids...(of course his parents are doing it)...go for the STI, i cant even imagine wat the after market will be once the new style subbies get on the road...you'll be able to pimp that car for at least 4 years...DO IT!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Youve still got a 3300lb brick, without all the features that should have been on there from the very beginning. Dont get me wrong, i really like the way 350Zs look both inside and out. And when you sit in the drivers seat everything just kinda conforms to you. But the car isnt comprable to the STI in terms of overall value, in base or top end models.

*Edit*
Btw, wonder what the odds are of the local Subaru dealership letting me testdrive (abuse) a STI when they arrive?

i would say VERY SLIM..well unless u have around $30,000 grand in a briefcase, and if ure not a rapper i doubt u will...i mean, you kno how many people young and old prob go up to mitsu dealerships asking to drive em'? they didn't go hardcore test driving the 350z until bout 6 months after it was released...

Neither, I would get an Infinety G35 or a 350 Z or Cobra in the 30K plus price range. Too much dough for a 4 cylinder (even a fast one). The RX-8 looks don't impress me. SCC reported some type of exhaust or intake port?? refused to open on the RX-8. This affected more than one car according to SCC.

actually NA rotaries are not a pain at all. they like their gas, but i don't think mileage is everyone's top priority. i have had 2 na 2nd gen rx7's and engine was bulletproof.

the 3rd gen's were very complicated to maintain and the turbos generated a lot of heat. also, if you leaned out the turbo 7's you would almost immediately blow an apex seal=dead engine.

however, what is the markup on the sti? i was under the impression that subaru wasn't going to give us a lot of them.

lucky for me my SVTF has a while before it's paid off and i might buy an older M3 or maybe an older 500sl afterwards. $30k for a car is luckily not an option for me.
