z28 or zx3

well i'm nota fan of hard tops otherwise i'd say the Z28. it's just plain faster

what's on the focus that makes it heavily modded? a turbo? and you know that the hevily modded focus would sell for less right?

how heavily modded is this zx3....chances are the stock z28 will outrun the zx3 in ALL ways. Including on the track, but, rwd vs fwd. Gas milage, insurance, and most of all, driveability.

If you can afford the insurance on the Z28 I would go that route. I would be paying $2800 a year for a 1998 Z28 SS, intead of $980 a year for the ZX5. The only weak point on a Z28 is the interior is pretty poorly pieced together but that is trivial. It had a great engine, either in LT1 or LS1 form. It is also, despite some people's opinion, a good handling car. If taken care of, the 350 will outlast the body too. They are also just fine in the snow if you put some real tires on it in the winter.

I think you should drive both and decide which suits you better. For me, that is a no-brainer based on my preference for cars, but I am not you, and neither are the rest of us!

well... i know that he put a new exhaust on it... cool air intake... header, ummm... plugs, wires, pulley, it's got a body kit, and chrome wheels. cam gear or whatever... it's got some high performance clutch or something... oh.. and he just purchased a nitrous system for it.. that i would have to install, but it comes with it.. but i am definately leaning toward the camaro...

i have driven the zx3... but not the z28... anyone know how the pony handles a larger gentleman?

yeah if you can afford the insurance go for it and get the z28.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah...it'll handle you fine....plus it'll actually be fast with you in it, unlike a smaller car. Go with the Z28...there's really no comparison. That car rocks!

What are you looking to do better?

Acceleration - Camaro, definitely. No question.

Handling - Get the Focus - the Camaro is way too big & sloppy, and its suspension is from the stone age. You can get it to handle, but only by binding up the suspension so it doesn't move. Then you get a ride like a kid's little red wagon.

At this past weekend's auto-x in South Bend, a rookie in a stock SVT Focus turned a best lap 1.5 seconds faster than an experienced auto-xer in a modded Z28 Camaro. Imagine what the Focus would do with better suspension tuning!

the z28 all the way! a buddy of mine had one, and they are FAST! He had a buch of suspension work done to it too and it handled very well. Plus that car sounded soooooooo goood. There is no way in hell a 4cyl could ever sound like that...... What's the price difference?

Powerwise the Z28 convertible.
Keep in mind that the top will need to be maintained and can be costly to replace.Another thing is to check with your insurance company because the Z28 convertible can be expensive to insure compared to the ZX3.

he is selling the zx3 for 10,500 and the camaro for 13,000 but i can get the zx3 for 9 and the z28 for 11...

and i think he did drive the focus a little harder than the z28... since he replaced the clutch already...

He replaced the clutch at 8k miles? Unless it was defective to begin with, that is some serious clutch abuse.

I'd almost recommend the Z28 based on that, except I can't recommend a convertible F-body to anybody. If you really like convertibles, and you aren't concerned with massive body flex and lots of added weight, then you might consider the Z28.

If the #1 thing you enjoy in a car is the horsepower, then the Z28 might be the way to go, but if you'd like excellent interior room, a hatchback, great build quality all inside a very competent handling machine, then go for the Focus... but find out why that clutch went so young.
