keep in mind that was the first time I'd ever done them and I didn't have any specialty or air tools. they are a major pain though. the worst part I think is getting that one bolt on the back that is blocked by the brake line. and lining up the hub onto the holes when you are done.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No disrespect, I only used the 4 hours to emphasize the PIA-factor.

I've never done drum brakes before, as all the vehicles up to this point have had 4 wheel disc brakes... So I was able to do both the fronts in less than 45 mins. My friend, who watched, couldn't believe how easy it was and how much the dealer wanted to charge... The NAPA "premium" discs and 2 rotors set me back just over $200 though (I use the word PREMIUM loosely).

Didn't use any airtools on this job, although I have them... Do you think airtools would have allowed you to do the job quicker in any way??? Also, looking back would you do it yourself or take it in to a TUFFY/MIDAS/JOE'S BRAKES DOWN THE ROAD.

oh, no problem! I wasn't offended or anything.

the air tools wouldn't really make a difference. I would definately do it again. It gets easier everytime. besides, I never trust those brake shops. I always have had bad experiences with them. they typically do a lousy job and then find a way to scam you into coming back in 6 months. to me, the money they charge does not equal labor involved. fortunately back brakes don't need to be replaced very often.

the disks are a joke. its take the wheel off, take the 2 torx (you can use allen if you dont have torx, allthough that is frowned upon), i like to open the MC and set the lid on top of it, and then just pry the caliper back against the rotor to compress the pot.

and viola. the caliper and rotor slide right off. replace the parts, slide back on, boom. done.

it took me and my 2 friends 40 minutes and it was our first brake job ever.

fixed most of my problems, but i think with 61k on the odo, its time to replace the pads as well, cuz the e brake now takes like 9 or 10 clicks to get firm, and my pedal is mushy most of the time.

what do you guys think?

FYI
According to the Guys at www.flatratetech.com (an excellent resource for any sort of service issue) the stock rotors on the Focus can be turned 'maybe' once.

If you're curious, just post over there and ask what the min thickness is. They are seriously helpful, and most are master technicians and really know their stuff.
