<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">question 1: no
question 2: yeah, pretty much. there are already model year 2003 focuses with the 2.3L Duratec engine in them. (CA, MA, and NY focuses)

Ford owns Mazda. Mazda slaps turbos on everything just about(Not as much as subaru does though). Why the hell don't they put a turbo on our car, and import the RS body style to the svt.
They should loose thier heads, the damn PT cruiser is even turbo charged now.

Well the nice thing is more displacement(2.3) and you could probably bore it out and stroke it to a 2.6-7 which will rock. Cause there is no replacement for displacement. And this will provide more oppurtunities for larger boost cause i'm betting the duratec is also a stronger bloack than the Zetec. The only thing is that its only 150hp? that really seems low to me does it seem low to anyone else? hopefully with enough tuning we get some serious horsepower and torque gains cause we are only get 15-20 more horses.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No they don't. They own a stake in Mazda, 33% if I remember correctly.

Focus Central told me they will provide some after market parts for it.

They are under the impression that it will be the Focus motor forever, though I have heard otherwise.

About a year ago when I first heard this from a little birdie....hehe. The 2.3 was temporary until Ford could get some of Mazda and thier's plants geared up to produce the 2.0 zetec collectively. The reason they chose the 2.3 is cause those motor plants could make up for the slack the other plants couln't while this swap was being made.

SO in other words look for Protege's and Focus have the exact same drivetrain and the 05 Turbo Focus and MazdaSpeed Protege to have the EXACT same drivetrain also.

oh and the 150hp...well that motor was built originally for the Ranger. Big h

orsepower wasn't the focus of the Ranger motor.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The ZETEC is dead. For so many reasons this New I4 all 3 displacements, 1.8, 2.0, and 2.3.

The 1st reason is that the New motors are cheaper.

cleaner, more efficent, quieter, more durable, more flexible.

the Zetec wasn't designed to grow, the new Inlines are, to even add a 5th cylinder.

also lets look at the 2.3 very young history.

started in th ranger. with 135hp, 9.7:1 pistons.

then Mazda6 in japan with 160hp and VCT, and a 180hp version on 92 octane. both with 10.6:1 pistons.

US mazda6 with 160hp VCT and 9.7:1 pistons.

ranger 2.3 boosted to 145hp.

focus PZEV 2.3 with 145hp.

escape HEV with a 5 stroke 2.3 motor.

next year expect a Gas direct injection head on the 2.3, 2.0 and 1.8 for europe.

Mazda6 MPs concepte was powered by a 280hp GDI turbo 2.3.

My point is that excluding possible turbo application the Zetec will die.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I heard the same thing, of course I may be wrong and ford is dumber than I ever imagined. Spend 2 billion dollars to replace the ZETEC, SPI, and mazda engines. only to expand Zetec production to japan?

I think people are confusing the Zetec E 2.0 with the Duratec HE 2.0, which revs pretty good BTW. they may also confuse the ZETEC SE with the Zetec E which are completely different engines. the ZEtec SE will survive but the Zetec E won't/ shouldn't.

So, unless I'm wayyyy wrong, in a few more months we should have part numbers popping up to do a 2.3 swap via *stock* Ford parts???

Aftermarket flood to follow, which brings the horsepower potential of this engine to light.

not sure if any of you have even seen this motor in person in the focus. I have and Ive driven it...At my dealership we have a few of them and they are very nice. Take off is even better then the SV in my oppinion. Nice sound when it revs up. Basically when you look at it , it almost looks backwards. The Dual stage intake runners are up front and the ehaust manifolds are in the back. Airbox is very small with no scoop on top. The scoop is comes out of the bottom of the box and goes down into the bottom grill. VCT and an alluminum valve cover. Pretty awesome...if your in CA or the few others that have them already check it out

Maybe something akin to the Escort GT of yore?
Something with a S2-type suspension and sportier seats.

The 6 speed works quite fine with the engines' power(band), thank you - nice try though!
Something tells me that you are not an SVTF owner.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The 6speed is geared way too high. way way too high. Maybe it only needs a shorter [numerically higher] final drive to pep-i-fy the acceleration.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Because the gas companies' marketing departments have convinced him (and almost everybody else, it sometimes seems) that "super unleaded is better than regular".

That's why they call the higher-octane gas things like "super" and "premium" etc.
