you know...for some reason...I just don't care anymore...If I am to buy a "pocket rocket" or something of that nature again...it most likely will be something other than Ford. Especially since I am not holding my breath.

Pak,
you should reread the article.....thats exactly what Ford is doing

"Ford just doesn't know what it's doing period. A performance division is a must, and you must keep it going, regardless if there aren't any immediate profits. There's always a market for any product you produce, someone somewhere is willing to buy it."

hmmmmmmmm I guess the manager of North Americas operations isnt good enough when he say SVT is in.
I read the article. What I'm saying is why let it go for a couple of years and then all of a sudden bring it back. They're losing out on market profitability while they aren't there. All this time that DCX, GM and other manufacturers are developing and producing performance models, Ford is sitting back doing nothing, maybe some development, but nothing is being produced. Makes no sense. Stay in the market, and maintain at least a small share of it while you develop better models.

Have you considered that Ford decided that it was more important to focus on its bread and butter cars first, then to put out high performance models of its half dead products that where in dire need of replacement?

I guess the new 05 Mustang isn't a performance car

Interesting article...

Last time I heard why the SVTF was killed off was because of the lack of "resources". Apparently, turbocharging was looked at for the Zetec motor, but when the Zetec made way for the Duratec, that project was tossed. The most reasonable alternative is to put in a turbo from Mazdaspeed, detune it, and rebadge it as SVT.

The biggest question that will be raised is how these "new models" will cater to the Ford performance/SVT enthusiast. New is one thing...being able to excite them is another.

Seeing how they hinted at a new SVTF, that may also imply they will use the new C1 platform when Ford does decide to use it in North America. But all my rumour mills suggest a version of the Fusion to be the new SVT.

As for the shareholder issue, let's look at it this way: When you sink $$$ into a company, you want to make dang sure your money isn't being wasted and you want top-dollar on your returns.

Maybe they need an "SVT-FJ"????
aka Focus GT.. per our thread last year...???
No, that would make too much sense.

I agree with u man, iam a ford guy, but iam tired of hearing ford doing things like this

I think FOrd is looking for a performance car that will sell it's self....up scale or affordable. It ain't gonna happen. If
Ford had done a better job of marketting the Focus SVT it would have been profitable and we would still have one.

They kill the 2.3 motor in 2005 for every vehicle except the new ST.
In 2004 you could get that (Mazda) based 23 in any focus, and it was 6 hp less than this years ST.
I should have gone for that deal I found 6 mos. ago-
A 2004 ZTW Sport Group w/2.3 and Leather.
Passed it up waiting for 2005 "Big Improvement".
Hell, they REALLY killed the car this year!
That 2.3 is nowhere near the wagon now!
Oh well, the 2.0 Z is fine.
Just not quite as fine as a Duratec 23
I'm keepin' my Wagon and modding it up a bit.

When will you people learn that horsepower means very little in terms of what this car was built to do?

Need I remind you that the world's best handling car currently on the market for sale only has 192 horsepower?

Sure extra power would be nice but if it takes away from the SVTF's awesome handling I'd vote against it.

If I want high horse power I'll go buy a Mustang.

Speak for yourself.

well good luck maybe there will be a designer that can increase the power in those cars and it wouldn't be so cheap so it can finally compete with cars. svt don't mean nothing 170hp. it should of been 210hp.
You're right, the SVTF could use a little more HP.

But street cars should be more about balance than outright power. It's illegal to engage in speed contests on public roads anyway.

What'sup with your username? I find it in poor taste, but that's just me.

Its true...balance is in every SVT brocure...

But think of this the ALL ALUMINUM block in the 2.3 is ovr 50 lbs lighter..which would help the cars already great handling.

25hp and 50 lbs less would work for me

That sounds like better balance to me.

your right, like 2% of the weight removed from right on top of the front wheels.

Everything would be better, stopping rotation, acceleration

My 2.3 hatch feels really nice now that I have the SVTF springs, dampers and bars on it.
