I match revs on downshifts, and I can even heel-toe fairly decently. I just didn't get why you'd need to let the clutch out in the middle of it, or how you could do that with any speed.

So, the only reason to double-clutch is to preserve synchros, which aren't doing you any good anyway if you're double-clutching?

if you know how to drive stick, get a stick, if you don't, learn man.! Come on people, you only do half the driving in auto cars, the ECU does the rest...no fun in that. Any stick car will be a bit quicker then it's auto twin, if you know how to launch right and shift right.

Some of us, like me, shift for a living now. I drive tractor/trailers in Southern California traffic.

I've been heel-and-toe double-clutch downshifting since I was fifteen years old. I am also a gearhead. I was making shift charts for my buddies for our 21-speed mountain bikes so we could know for sure exactly where the next ratio was...

I enjoy automatics and know enough about them to exploit their strengths. The shift map, which is ECU controlled, is excellent in my 2.3's 4F27E.
It is very driveable for sport.

Since you have asked, I will answer you in this way:

Calm down on the manual/automatic thing. I can tell you're a young buck, and think that anyone that drives an auto is a moron or something.

I assure you, Sir, that I will lap faster on a roadcourse than you and your stick, because I know how to drive, period. We will even swap cars; you drive mine and I'll drive yours. Again, I will be faster.

BTW, Welcome to [FJ]focaljet!

Thanks for the spanking (and the welcome, glad to have found FJ), I've been sitting here waiting for it.. Truth is, I am a young buck (24), but I learned how to drive with a stick, at 11 years of age, and driven them since then (no trailers though).. I had an auto Sport Trac for a while and was rear ending everyone cause it was sooo damn boring. Hence the switch to the stick D20E.
Listen Dad

, no way do I think you are a moron, don't know you that well, but at the same time, you don't know how I drive. On that note, I would love to step in the track with you with two equal cars, and if you smoke me, I'll just learn from you till you're doing the chasing.. Till then, relax on the spankings..

Fact is fact, and with a stick you have much more control over your vehicle. You don't see F1, GT, Le Mans, WRC cars cruisin autos now, do you..? I think there is a reason for that.
If you haven't realised, not much of a straight line type-o-guy.. When it comes to females and driving, I LOVE curves..

I had an auto Sport Trac for a while
I'm sorry. I drove one of those once.

F1 cars use a paddle-shift clutchless manual transmission, and the driver is only allowed to upshift. Downshifts are handled by the computer, lest the driver destroy the engine. It's really only slightly more involved than a normal slushbox.
Image

True that, but they have that choice of holding their gear in, which is quite important for those curves I LOVE..

The Sport Trac wasn't all that bad honestly, believe me, it took a lot of abuse before the tranny gave out...

Gee, I never realized that!

Thanks for pointing this out to me!

But you did see, until it was banned in F1, semi-auto computer-controlled shifting...

And, of course, the ne plus ultra of racing transmissions in the WRC these days, SEQUENTIALLY SHIFTED MANUALS...

The bummer in street cars is the torque convertor

J/K, Dude...What is thy name and from where dost thou hail? O Young Buckee...

And BTW, Jim Hall and his Marvelous Chapparal's, back in the day against the likes of Hulme, McLaren (THE McLaren) and other notable World Champions, gave those guys a run for their money in an automatic...

But I digress.

Because I have nothing better to do than post whore, I'll point out that he's from Chicago.

This how I drive with such panache...

I know how to do this with the 4F27E. It's really very simple. I may have the opportunity to show you someday.
Image

This is why 4-speed autos come with a 1, 2, and D gear, and an overdrive button.

What makes you so special?

How did one ASSCERTAIN this bit of trivia???

HMMM?...

I said it was relatively simple.

But, unlike GM's autotragics, Ford has always made it so that 2nd is ONLY 2nd and, obviously, 1rst is only 1rst.

The 2nd gear thing is what makes this car act like a semi-auto (except for the damned torque convertor).

And, as you pointed out (from me pointing it out eleventy billion times) the OD Off button is your friend and should be used ALL of the time...
Image

Banned it was for a reason (F1).. Clutch is good for the launch, after that I wouldn't mind losing it either (well, let me think about that one).. Key here is that YOU control the shifting, and not another damn computer..
Age is no excuse for laziness, keep it real old-timer..
George from the Windy City, and if you're ever around, meet me on the highway, I pretend it's a track sometimes, can you..? (I do it safelly, only accident was below 50mphs)

Keep using those buttons, let me know how long that tranny holds up..

Z63R, it's doable, but much easier and much funner on the manny tranny..

DUDE! I know this.

I'm just making the most of an untimely decision to purchase my 2.3 w/ the auto.

My '63 Ford with a 347 and a Motorsport T5 was totalled three blocks from my house by a woman with a lap full of tacos...

I was hoping to keep it and ressurect it, but, alas...

You'd be surprised at how well I can drive a manual, as I so boldly pointed out to you earlier...

The trans is doing fine, BTW; one of the bene's of t3h ECU.

Believe me, I've built autos, run them hard and talked to countless trans guys over the years, most recently Len Bertrand of Lentech, and he assures me that I cannot hurt this trans at these power levels...and I religiously change the fluid; no ill effects so far.

So don't you worry...

Age is no excuse for laziness, keep it real old-timer..

Really now. Nice first impression you're making here.

BTW, I'm still faster than you...

...*sobbing*...

How did this get so outta control!?

...*more sobbing*...

I'll be steppin' out for awhile...

Don't abuse the old guy too much while he's gone...

See ya later! And D20E; it was nice bantering witcha. You'll be a welcome addition to the Duratec forum.
Image

All in good fun old-timer(I'll keep this up till my young buck title disappears
Image
), and for the love of speeds adrenaline. I won't even put up a fight when it comes to your experience, I'm here to learn as much as I can. But do me a favor, just cause I'm a young buck, don't understimate my driving skills.

Fear grows with age, and in our sport, there is just no room for it..
Image

I've somehow fallen in auto cars too for time, but never argued that they're better then manual, never will..

if my calculations are right, thanks to this thread d20e has just doubled his amount of posts.
