hey everyone,
Having trouble w/ my 02 zx5 zetec... Been reading posts dealing with rough idle and "surging" in 3rd,4th,or o.d. at low RPM's. I am having the same symptoms as evryone else, BUT i dont have CEL. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

you're doing it yourself? has a dealer replaced this already?

the TSB extends the warranty on this part dramatically. if you haven't had them do it once already, i'd suggest that. (some of the TSBs actually said it didn't necessarily have to throw a MIL in order to be covered by the extended warranty)

Unless the member received a letter from Ford or it's noted in OASIS (Ford's database) that the car is covered, the DPFE will have to be out-of-pocket. That was my understanding because not every original owner has received such a letter. Also, there are certain mileage restrictions on the extended warranty too. If the Focus is beyond 100,000 km or 60,000 miles, the repair will be out-of-pocket.

i never received a letter, and they replaced mine, after the car's normal warranty expired.

(in the US) the federal govt. requires car manufacturers to warranty emissions parts for 80,000 miles.

If you weren't the original owner and/or have moved since you bought your car, Ford (Dearborn) won't know who/where the current owner is unless the person tells Ford. Dealerships may update their records but it's no guarantee that Ford in Dearborn updates theirs too.

As long as the warranty is in OASIS, you're fine.

Uhhh...why would you replace the sensor? If it still is sensoring fine then that won't fix your problem.
It's worth a shot. The DPFE sensor issue has affected a good segment of Focus owners in North America. If the person buys a new sensor and the problem goes away, s/he will have saved the labour and diagnosis fee if they take it into a dealership out of warranty. If it's doing the same thing, then at least the person has an idea that it's not the DPFE and look at other possibilities (the dealership would have still charged the diagnosis fee and labour -- and you'd come out ahead still). Plus, that owner now has a spare part that can come in handy readily

well...cosidering i've worked at a dealership...you don't just change electrical parts unless you do tests.

I know the dpfe sensors go out on fords overall...but they show up as a DTC for egr.

Try taking it off and shaking it...if no moisture comes out there is probably nothing wrong with the dpfe.

I recently had a Bad DPFE sensor. I have a Computer code reader, and shot out # P0401. EGR insufficient Flow. It has been sputering for almost 5 months b4 i decided to play around with it, and got a check engine light 1 month ago. So it in fact doesn't really shoot an engine code right off bat. I bought a new one from a local ford dealer (Victor Ford), for those who are local. The guy behind the parts desk told me it has been an issue with the DPFE, and the part is now revised. heheh, knowing ford the part will go out in 10,000 miles instead of 25,000... Money making scheme. Anyway all is well now, still sitting on planing my turbo install, and time setup

Thanks for the input JB looks like i'm gonna try that first, as my car is no longer under warranty i would rather try to resolve this issue without "help"

If you do decided to replace it, make sure you get the most up-to-date part. Also, the new mounting location isn't on the firewall. It just "floats"/hangs there around the area of the intake pipe and coil pack. The newest replacement DPFE should have instructions in saying where to mount it.

The part should cost about $32. If you need to verify if the part is the revised part or not you can send me a PM with the part number of the Sensor, i will verify it with my sensor and see if its the same one. Part number should be on the bag it comes in, and also on the top of the sensor

Almost forgot. It is now a dealer stocked item. So they may have some left over of the old version

When I replaced my DPFE, the dealer had me check the location, because they had both locations in stock in the parts department. Like it was stated, it will be either on the firewall, or directly under the intake tube, both are easy fixes.
