Is watching Nascar \"relaxing\"?

I've been watching Nascar since the 70's. All this time I've found it increasingly difficult to stay awake for a whole race. It's like the sound puts me to sleep. I love watching, I just seem to doze off and always wake up to see the last 50 laps or so. Anyone else know what I mean?

It's not relaxing, it is [censored] boring.
I agree. To each his own.

I do agree, NASCAR is boring and overrated.

I saw a few laps here this afternoon, and I didn't find it boring. It is somewhat relaxing, but I never really watch enough of it to make a valid statement about it. I'm just going through racing withdrawl, though, so anything is enjoyable.

Great finish today! A fearless driver with no more tire left prevails.

Durring the race I:

Trimmed the trees, vacumed the floor and took my wife out to Brunch!

Even so, as a racer, I totally respect the skills and conscentration of these drivers. At NASCAR school, the hardest part of driving is forgetting WTF your doing going around in circles.

You have to be fast every lap and that takes an attitude that evey lap is a new race.
I don't know how they do it. Too late or too early into the turn puts you right into the wall. There is no room for error.

but for the driver thats not the only part, its worrying about whats gunna happen to ur car in traffic, if someones going to take the air off ur spoiler, if somones going to bump you, if you have a tight or loose car how ur car would react to a change in weather, what adjustments to make on the next stop, should u conserve your tires till the next run. wondering why theyre going in circles isnt whats on real drivers minds, even going to a racing experience school doesnt give the full experience.

Re: Is watching Nascar \"relaxing\"?

I took a nap during the race yesterday, but then I had eaten a big lunch. Try to say awake just sitting around after a big lunch.
I also seem to fall asleep during football, baseball and when I watch them basketball games on TV. There is nothing like being at a live event.

These days I only watch the first 25 laps and the last 25 laps and some mid-race stuff; I'm too busy right now with overtime at work. The finish at yesterday's Atlanta race was about as good as it gets with Edwards (on worn tires) chasing down Johnson...

To all the people who find NASCAR boring, do you feel that way about Champ and Indy cars?

Because the people that dis roundy-round racing really make it apparent that they have little technical appreciation for racing at all.

Ignorant poseurs, really.

I am a complete racing fanatic; everything from WRC to F1 to Touring Cars to Offroad to NASCAR and American Open Wheel.

I appreciate everything it takes to win in each of these series and yet, sometimes I'm so pleasantly involved with watching a race, I may just nod off for a few as I listen to the sound of racing exhausts...

Re: Is watching Nascar \"relaxing\"?

i hadn't been into nascar in the past, i didn't know much about racing and i too found the oval tracks boring.

but this season, i have watched all the races and the only reason i will fall asleep during one is due to my own sleep deprivation during the week...

i find it very interesting watching the pit strategy, and also i like rooting for the roush boys

now a days the broadcast gets info from the pit crews and the drivers during the race. you get so see who is doing what and what changes they need to make.

also the crashes and the crazy yellow-flag pit stops are always neat, especially when you have a crew like biffle yesterday that kept putting him back in first place.

and the finish was awesome, i was really rooting for edwards, and that manuvering was brilliant. i mean a few laps before he overheated his tires driving hard to catch johnson...he was sliding sideways a foot from the wall! and he finds a new driving line in the last few laps and edges johnson out. talk about awesome.

i do like the road courses a bit more but now that i understand more about racing, i can get into nascar more than i could before.
