From MPH-Online.com:
During the much critiqued "Way Forward" speeches by Ford early this week, executives stood between two clay sculptures of the Reflex Concept from this year's Detroit Auto Show and the Fairlane Concept from the 2005 Detroit Show. This would make one believe both of these vehicles are headed for production. There are other whispers that the Fairlane will replace traditional Ford minivans and run on the same platform as the Freestyle. Yet more quietly whispered was word that Ford might indeed import the much lauded European Focus to the United States to replace the positively ancient U.S. Focus.
And how exactly does that comment fit into this discussion?jinstall said:The NA spec Fusion is right on mark with its dimensions for a US spec Midsize... so it is fiting to point out it is built on a STRETCHED Mazda6 platform....
Well the E-spec Fusion is a 5dr mini compact about the same size as a Honda Fit.
NA spec Countour's relationship to E Spec Mondeo was exactly equal to 2000 NA Spec Focus and 2000 E Spec Focus...BLUE_02_ZX3 said:yea im guessing america made the contour so much smaller to fit it in the price catagory they wanted it in.
here is NA Spec Ford Fusion:jinstall said:Look familiar:

I don’t see people on the Jet flocking out to buy Audi A3's. It’s a focus sized premium compact with a LOT of features in it, and pretty similar to the euro version of it. Everyone complains it’s too $, yet if the car was stripped to bring down to "American" price levels for a small car everyone would complain it was stripped and cheep. The truth is most people here want a bigger car when they move up, not just a nicer car the same size as the focus.Thameth said:Yea thats why so many Euro cars do so well in the US??????
How are we supposed to know how different the markets are when we rarely get any true Euro cars???
I don't want a bigger car????? I actually went smaller but upgraded....rpvitiello said:I don’t see people on the Jet flocking out to buy Audi A3's. Most places in the US have to room for you to comfortably drive a large car, and easily park and drive it. The only real exception is the north east US where the roads were from before cars, and many roads tend to be quite narrow, and parking is scarce. Because of that Euro cars do better there then “American” cars.
Wow that was so not calculated. The opening in the dash is the same, just configured differently.igor2 said:here is NA Spec Ford Fusion:

The very fact that with mostly similar parts on the dash, they could not fit the clock between the centeral air vernts on the Mondeo shows you that the Mondeo is quite a bit smaller...
The other clue would be the fact that Mondeo's center console narrows steeply to fit between the front seats. The Fivehundred however keeps the width because it has much more space between the seats

Read it again and figure it out.igor2 said:Originally Posted by jinstall

Ah, the elusive "premium compact".Thameth said:I don't want a bigger car????? I actually went smaller but upgraded....
Well said, i've never thought about using the "it" factor. Brillant!focaljet-1 said:MINI sells because it has "it", that extra flair you can't define. IMHO, the only car that could develop that kind of cult status here might be the Smart.
"it" only comes with the Purchase of a MINI. :lol:sandmann41 said:Is that the same "it" that you can buy on eBay?
Wow let me put a different bumper on the Mondeo and then we can make it 195". The body length is not a true unit to measure from. You can have a long front and rear and no cabin space and still be a small car. That is how the WRC Teams are getting around the regulations. Another thing, it is not MY BELOVED Mondeo it is FORD's Mondeo. The New Mondeo has been out since 2000 and Ford NA sat on their asses and did nothing. Ford is almost a bad as GM.igor2 said:Ok here is the Ford NA lineup:
Ford Fivehundred 200.7"
NA Spec Fusion is 190"
NA Spec Focus ZX4 is 175.2"
Where does you beloved Mondeo fit.. to put your numbers in perspective:
Mazda6 Sedan is 186.6" and is considered too small for NA Midsize Market..
There you go
Igor
"It" is big in Germany as the Mini is everywhere here. I still want to drive a Diesel Mini this summer.Thameth said:"it" only comes with the Purchase of a MINI.
Not referring specifically to you, but the general fj population. I mentioned that I wanted an Audi A3 and every time it comes up everyone states “its overpriced” “its not worth it.” “Get an srt4 it’s faster for the money” etc…Thameth said:I don't want a bigger car????? Uh thats just in your little part of the world...my friends F-250 Supercab can fit pretty much anywhere where he needs to go in NJ and NYrpvitiello said:Most places in the US have to room for you to comfortably drive a large car, and easily park and drive it.
