And I always wondered why VW drivers seem to think there cars are better than every ones. VW arent really that great there a ****ty version of a German car, If I was gunna waiste my money on a german car a VW wouldnt be one of them.

Id rather say I have a Mercedes or a BMW, If i wanted to flaunt something and actually impress people.

Saying I have a VW doesnt get the wow, and saying you have a VW and having the attitude you think its "wow" is even stupider. VW kinda sucks, plus christ if they could actually make a car without an electrical issue id be amazed.
If you would take a focus over a GTI something is wrong with you.

I like both of those cars a lot, but I'm sorry, if I'm buying a car tomorrow out of those two it's probably gonna be the GTi, it's a sharp car with a lot of potential and I love the hint of retro to it, then again I'm also from a VW family  But better than either of those, give me a new Mazda3 5-door, mmmm :evilgrin:

Check out this thread.

http://forums.focaljet.com/team-rigz/502994-my-svt-eap-my-friends-new-mk5-gti-sorry-56k.html

The performance is there, but the new GTI does look like the autistic brother ala "Rain Man".

Besides with more than $10,000 dollars difference in price you could have the trickest focus ever an still cost about the same.
Where did u get a $10k difference? Your thread link shows a SVT EAP which was somewhere around $21k MSRP new. New GTi's base at $22k, Sorry but its completely YOUR opinion that the SVT looks better than the GTi. Honestly they're not even comparable since one isn't even in production anymore and the other has about 3-4 years of design and modern technology on its side.

Exactly, not to mention there's a lot of obvious power differences between those two, even if they were both brand new I.E. turbo ;)

I wasn't thinking of the now out production and overpriced SVT EAP.

I was thinking of a new focus hatch which is nearly always on sale for $9998 out here. VS the GTI.

And yes the Styling is of course subjective.

The add is comparing a mod'd focus hatch vs. the new GTI.

The sadder part is that ford really doesn't have anything that compares with the GTI. The closest competion would be the WRX or Cobalt SS/Ion Redline as far as performance and cost are concerned.

When I looked at the GTi at the LA auto show I really liked it (still do in red or black, white just doesn't do its lines justice to me).

But seeing that thread with a mean looking SVT next to the GTI makes the GTI a little goofy looking.

A different color, and a HUGE drop should do the trick.

No offence but why did you pull a BASE Zx3 out of nowhere? It has nothing to do with it, the discussion was talking about the SVT EAP vs. GTi.

Again like you said its subjective because i think the GTi looks meaner than the SVT, but the SVT still looks great. I would take both if i could.

i have seen a bunch of those commercials, and i think that VW is trying way too hard to get people to buy a jetta, personally i think it looks horrible, but then again i have never liked VW's to begin with

I dunno...I laugh my you-know-what off at those VW commercials. The ones with the "fast" are pretty funny but the "unpimp your auto" commercials really me up.

HOW dare they VW Crush a Ford Focus.:thumbdown I say send in the B-17 Bombers and put VW out of Business with a Bang.
The Beetle is the Queerest car around, Not the Focus.

Where are you getting your prices from?

They start at $22K.
and the audi a3 starts at $23k

Once you put options in either of these cars they hit $30k

I have not driven the GTI, but from a styling point of view I prefer the A3. as for the interior, its at toss up, both look really nice.

What gets me about the VW commercials is they seem to be trying to market to turners, but the car is priced such that most tuners wouldn't bother. I just don't see them marketing a $21K+ car to the right people.

not true...the A3 starts at 25,460 for the A3 2.oTFSI and at 3.2 S-line at 34,700. So right there you are automatically talking a 3,500usd difference in starting price...that could buy a pretty good amount of options...

Thank you, that was sort of what I was trying to get at in my previous post.

What they are saying (to me at least) is "don't by some older car and hot rod it, buy the GTI. It's already hot rod'd by german engineers."

The comercial dosn't show a GTI vs. a new anything.

The three I've seen show different older model "tuner cars".

So the question raised by the comercial is do you want a focus like this

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...rt_year=2002&drive=&isp=y&engine=&body_style=HATCH&doors=&fuel=&lang=&cardist=6

with a powerworks blower?

Or do you want a new stock GTI witha base price of $21,990

jesus. VW is bashing our cars and tuners, how dare they? give me a break. they're not bashing tuners or the focus. they're bashing ricers (which we should all do). they're saying the GTI is fast without all that unnecessary crap like big wings and hood scoops where the "tuners" they show are just the opposite (all show, barely any go). i could see you guys complaining if they crushed a stock Focus RS or even a SVT, but you're crying about them crushing a riced-out "pimp my ride" knock-off car that you all would have made fun of if it was posted in team rigz (other than the "its not my style, but its unique so i like it" idiots).

and about the price: i don't see you all crying about the price of the Evo and STi. plenty of tuners can and do buy those cars and they're almost $10k more than the GTI.

Love the commericals. Very entertaining, creative, funny, and gets a reaction from some people. Definately something that we won't forget very soon.
The best one is where they dropped the box on that blue focus.

Stupid fact about the VW commerisals...I was reading some place that the guy doing VW gang signs is the same dude that played John Abruzzi on Prison Break on Fox... LOL
