My fuel pump is going bad on my 2000 zx3 with the zetec motor. I've ordered a fuel pump made by Master from AdvanceAuto. It is just the fuel pump itself for 63 dollars and not the whole assembly . I didn't pay for it yet because i'm wandering if this is the best way to go. What are some recommendations for replacing the fuel pump and having it last a long time and who makes the best replacement fuel pump??

The best way to solve that problem is take it to the nearest Ford dealer and let them fix it, since it's a TSB open for 10 years ;)

They won't cover the replacement because i have 140,000 miles and I'm and auto mechanic anyways so I'll save money by doing it myself. I was just looking for tips on what parts to buy.

The Fuel Pump replacement campaign does not list maximum mileage. It states the pumps will be replaced within 10 years you bought the car. Your dealer is feeding you a line of ****.

And plus its not something that you want to do yourself anyway. The tabs that the pump locks into have to be removed to get the "mounting ring" out of the bottom of the tank. Ford has a special tool that is used to cut those tabs off of there...and trust me...you NEED that tool. I had my hand down in a 1/4 tank of gas for like 2 hours trying to get it outta there. Like everyone said...take it to the dealership. Its covered for 10 years. Its a recal item, not a warranty item.

Yep as stated mileage isn't an issue at all with it, it just has to be done within 10 years ;)

No, i don't have to cut anything. I went ahead and bought the pump from AdvanceAuto for 63 dollars. It was just the pump itself with two strainers, two grommets, and replacement rubber seal for the top of the tank. I'm going to pull my car in the shop sometime next week and attempt the install. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

If I were you, I would see on confirming that the 10 year/no mileage campaign is valid. If it is and your dealer is feeding you some crud, then you could be saving $63 and the associated work/aggravation that you don't have to do. Plus, I'm not sure what the replacement pump design is, but if the original pump design was faulty and the aftermarket part just used the same design, then you could be looking at a possible repeat of the situation.

I have heard of cars not being covered because they were produced after a specific date. I haven't heard many with mileage restrictions.

You can always call up a dealership or Ford Customer Service for confirmation.

OH, Im all for doing the work myself(WHY DO I ALWAYS TYPE "MYSLEF" I should have made that my name)

I have the same trust issues. but still, its free, and they owe it to you for screwing it up

The dealer replaced mine at 64XXX miles with basically no questions asked a month or so ago :dunno: I also like fixing things myself, but I'm a full-time college student with a limited budget. If the dealer can do it for free on their time and not mine, I'm all for it :)
