Now is there a list of shops going to be posted of where we can take the SVT Xios kit and get a tune or will that all be a guess and hope FS likes you
No. Randy said he doesn't give tunes to other tuners. Not even to his friends like Walter Marcy. So the assumption would logically be that if you're planning on DIY install, you get a tune. If you want to take it to a tuner, you can get a discount on the cost.

Just like Vortech and Turbo Tom offered on their kits. Its a pretty standard practice.

I defer to post #17.

Again.

In fact, anyone who is even considering clicking that nifty 'Post Reply' button, just read post #17. Again. With an unbiased opinion.

Ok and what;s stopping me after I install that kit myself, drive it to Tom, cfm or anywhere and let them copy that tune from ECU ?

Nothing. But that is not what went on here. And it has already been discussed.

Nothing. Nothing at all. But again, that doesn't mean they have to just hand it over either, does it. Like I said. Coke has Pepsi's secret. In fact it made major news when a Pepsi employee (I think) was busted for selling secrets. But Pepsi didn't send a case over to Atlanta with the recipe attached and say "go right ahead and be our guest."

I know it has been a long time since the facts have been posted. I'll refresh your memory.

POST #17 said:
I recall calling "mystery customer" to offer my assistance with his local shop and straight up asked him where this work was being done at. He flat out lied to me, but I didn't know it at the time. Later that day Tom called XIOS asking about something not fitting the way they thought it should and it became crystal clear that we were deceived and that this whole thing was turning shady.

Willingness.

One tuner is not willing to put a tune on a car...knowing that it is going to another tuner right after that.

The customer had to have been willing to take the tune to another tuner...but bought the kit from a separate tuner while telling him it was a DIY deal.

Instead...the customer was willing to divulge the plan...and the tuner was not willing to give up his tune.

Problems?

I guess you are one of the people who decided NOT TO READ my posts:

Nothing, Physically.

Legally, it's probably covered by the new digital copyright laws.

You could do it. But if you were caught, Randy could sue if he wanted.

I don't write the laws, I just live by them.

So let's take this and put it into something other than a tune.

I bought a set of FI cams from someone on the board that were made by a vendor on the board. The shop I go to in PA recommended that I not put the cams in on stock springs if the overlap or duration was over .400.

I called the guy that had the cams made or made them himself to ask the duration and he refused to tell me.

Is this right or wrong? Basically the same principle. After I thought about the situation and what was going on I called the guy back and said hey here is why I need to know and he told me not to run stock springs and that is all that he would tell me.

Right, wrong or indifferent it is basically the same situation.

Wow. Looks like everyone's tarding out here. Fact of the matter is that there are trade secrets, period. Yes, they're available, but a hell of a hard time to get a hold of. Don't know why this mystery customer didn't just go with Randy's tuning to begin with, or make such a huge deal of having to pay an extra 100 out of pocket to get the tune sorted elsewhere. Should've just taken the refund, had Randy do the tuning, or shut the f**k up. Those are the options, not to ignore the refund and bitch about it. That's my $0.02.

Randy I was wondering what your answer would of been had the customer said to you "I plan on having focus power install the kit and then dyno the car" which is what I was alwasy aware of was going to happen not that Tom was going to tune the car in anyway unless there was a problem. Tom was just going to do a dyno the car after the instal. At a later date the car was going to get a dyno tune from Tom or some other tuner.(((But hey I dont expect you guys to believe me caues I am not the customer and the customer is a lier and a dousche)))

OMFG PEOPLE. POST #17 COVERS THIS. :bang:

Once it was made clear to us that "mystery customer" wanted to buy the XIOS kit and take his car to Tom and Tom had already expressed an interest in seeing what he could do with the XIOS kit, it was decided that we'd prefer to not to send a program if that was the plan. Instead the customer was offered a $200 discount. This was BEFORE the kit was installed, by the way. This was because we certainly weren't going to hand over a finished file to a competitor. Tom is more than capable of doing this work so why not let him strut his stuff? We wanted to see how his results would be without any work done for him. Maybe Tom would check out the file and maybe he wouldn't. Not sending the file over really just took care of that question completely. This is not that hard to understand. I don't think Tom would want me taking credit for any of his work and vice versa. I already know that Tom can pull files off of an ECU and there is no disputing that. This route ensured that everyone was absolutely doing their own work and that is the way it should be.
Say, look at that! An exact answer to your question!

Actualy it wasent maybe I worded my post wrong maybe your just blind.. or maybe stupid I asked Randy a question a simple one at that.. not you. Unless your head is so far up his ass that you consider yourself part of him....

Randy would you of sold a tune to someone who was going to have a shop install it and then take it to a tuner later that month? Or would that be just like handing it over too? I dont mean to bug as I am sure your busy but.. I understand that in this case you feel like your were just handing it to Tom to then let him play with it and inspect it and do whatever but whats stopping me from buying the kit and putting it on with your tune and then taking my car to Tom the next week and letting him have at the Tune? (other then that fact that I dont have a svt or the $$$ for it)

Thats pretty much the same thing as saying "I am buying this...having it installed...and taking it to another tuner after installation."

Only there is a few weeks in between.

Then it all brings us back to square one.
