Is is just me or does anyone else think they might be throwing spit around just to get people off the track that they are actually going to release this as the next Supra?

I hope this doesn't become the next Supra. As much as I'm loving the looks of it, it's just too perfect of a modern-day AE86 right now to become anything but that.

they also introduced a freaking AUTO STi.
i believe though i may come with paddle shifter and finally got recaros.
but it fails soo much idc.

The problem is that Nissan and Mazda are both doing what caused them to kill the Z and 7 back in the day... they keep making them more expensive with each generation and then suddenly wonder why sales suddenly drop off when the car is hitting $40k+ one day....

Hopefully they catch on before it happens again, luckily Nissan didn't bloat the 370Z and Mazda is on a kick of actually making future cars lighter... so maybe there is hope they learned.

DING DING DING! We have a winnar!

Nice - this is a very nicely-designed car. I'm curious to see how much of these body lines won't get bastardized if moved to production :dunno:

I'd rock it if they do it right.

"They" are not releasing this car, Toyota is. You likely will not see a Subaru version in the U.S. because of how they've built their marketing in the U.S. for 15 years on how they only sell AWD cars.

All this really was is Toyota taking advantage of their part ownership in Subaru.

Regarding The STI A-Line, it is Japan only- automatics are hugely popular over there, especially in the urban areas, and the A-Line is like $5,000 cheaper than the 6-speed STI. It's Subaru's normal 5 speed automatic like you'd see in a Tribeca or Outback/Legacy 3.6R. Do I like the idea? No, but I can see their thought behind it. There's been automatic M3's, EVO's, Boxsters, etc etc, it's nothing new.

Now the question is, why even waste the rear interior of this car with even attempting rear seats. Just open up that area and give us a larger hatch/trunk.....
Insurance purposes.

I especially enjoy the drift-happy segment with an AE86 there at the end

Uber McSexytime. Direct competitor the the Genesis. If it was under 3000 pounds and had 220+hp this could be the next great tuner car. I would buy one easily. Soooooo excited about what this could become.

Call me crazy, but I really don't see how this is any sort of successor to the AE86.

This is the original AE86, a cheap RWD econobox that only turned into a cult icon after Initial D came out and drifting started getting big. The FT86 is a pure sports coupe, not "economy" by any means. The only thing it has in common with the original is 2 doors and RWD. IMO it's not even in the "spirit" of the original. A true AE86 successor would be a cheap Corolla coupe with RWD.

Seriously, be glad Toyota is giving enthusiasts anything... purism isn't necessary at this point, really.
