Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

Yeah, if I was going to do return system, I'd probably do it that way. Doesn't look terrible.

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

Yeah if you look in Dtec04's build thread he had a sweet return-style system, he's making around 400whp with his. I did a pretty bitchin ms paint interpretation of his setup too :p
The biggest problem for me with his set up is that $350 A1000 fuel pump. I don't really like the external surge tank either but I have done one like that in the past and it worked very well. You could run the tank dry as a bone.

The main reason I am doing mine like this is the cost. A walboro 255 is less than $100. Since this is no longer a DD I think I can keep the tank over 1/2 full all the time and save a few hundred bucks, and more potential for leaks.

Ok, a Walbro 255 is < $100, but what about the tank swap? Even if Top Speed offered a core exchange, I would be sending in a plastic Zetec tank for a metal Dtec tank with mods. So you're saying even with that, it won't cost as much as an A1000 pump?

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

No only the canister and lid need to be modified. As far as I know all the canisters are interchangeable.

You wouldn't even have to completely disconnect and drop your tank, only lower it to access the top of the tank and change out the canister and lid

Oh wow...I guess I got confused when you mentioned sumping a metal tank. So we're lookin at a $100 pump and maybe...$100 of modded canister/lid? Would Top Speed also provide new feed and return lines? Also, you're gonna need a FPR. How much do those run?

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

The stock fuel line is gonna be the return and the new feed will be -6 flexible line.

I think they are gonna do it 2 ways.

1- they sell you a modified canister and lid with pump installed and a modified stock rail with AN fittings welded on as well as a list of what you need to buy and you source the rest.

2- A complete kit with everything you need from pump to fittings and FPR

There will be core charges on both for the stock rail and canister.

FPR run anywhere from $50-$200 depending on the quality. I know Chris and he is only gonna use an Aeromotive and they are around 150-160. So if you are willing to hunt around and go for lesser parts you could source the rest of it yourself for less.

Hey Jared tell chris to switch over to fuel lab. idk if you know but fuel lab are the same guys who started aeromotive except there fuel pumps are brushless so they dont heat up also there quality and customer service is 20 times better.

And when i do mine im gonna use a bosch 044 pump it will handle 600whp with ease way more then ill ever need plus you can find them for around 200

My single bosch044 set ups were louder than my twin in tank walbro255 set ups. It also created more heat issues. That said, I'd still rather have one pump than two.

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

I have had 2 of them and the longest that I had one in a car was about a year which would've been purchased around Jan 2008. I don't think there is an "old model." Every person I know that has one has a noisy, hot pump. But again, I don't necessarily think it is a bad choice, just something to keep in mind. Something like a Supra Denso pump is probably better suited to you guys who aren't going to make a lot of power. It should be plenty for like 550whp, have OEM sound, and OEM reliability.

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

I made a lot of progress today! After work I got the head finished up and on the motor as well as set the timing. Now all i have to do is finish putting all the accessories on and buttoning it up before putting it back in the car.

I now have all the parts to get it back in the car and running. Return fuel system is almost complete just need to weld up the rail re-install the tank and run the lines on the car.

I don't have much time to work on it until Friday, but i hope to have the motor at least in the car (maybe started) by the end of the day.

I am doing something similar to this but I will be using the Bosch 044 external pump.

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

How would you determine the size of the engine mounted surge tank? Wouldnt it be easier to install a larger pump than to create a return system? Educate me

Re: 325whp 320 wtq STOCK ZETEC - UPDATED #'s 340whp/338wtq!

If you want to use the stock fuel tank and pickup/design your only options are boost-a-pump, GT pump, or doing this (or a combination).
