Hi all. Long time lurker here.

My girlfriends 97 accord needs new front rotors and tie rods and ball joints and, and, and ...
Well, it's going to cost a lot to replace or some things are a PITA to replace so we thought we'd get rid of it.
A focus wagon really appeals to us and we found a 2002 wagon for $4,995 with 103k on it. Blue book is $6,800 so it seems like a good deal. What do you think?
I'm going to go look at it. What should I look for?

What motor does it have and do you know the trim level?

That price does seem a little high, even the blue book.

yea i paid 5k for only 78k miles on my 01 wagon it does seem a little high to me also

According to the VIN decoder it's the Zetec engine. It's the SE trim level.

well there's a step in the right direction. 5k is still high, especially for the mileage. 100k is usually the tipping point with almost any car, that's when the value drops in a big way. i would introduce 4k and see where they meet. however if you're comfortable drop it even lower. what does it have for options? any aftermarket parts? a/c, cd, etc?

I think you should be around $4,000 - $4,200... based on the fact that used economy cars values have gone UP in the last year.

I paid $4k for my wagon with 84k miles on the clock.

It looks very clean an un adulterated.

Don't know what options are standard and which are options but it has pwr locks, pwr windows, cruise, single disc CD, ac and the 8 double spoke wheels. It also has no tachometer.

On another note. I found an '03 wagon with 101k miles for $2,995. ZTW this time with heated seats and traction control (advancetrac maybe?) Seems like a much better deal.

I'd still see why the first wagon is priced higher, if it's still a contender.

Traction control and ABS isn't necessarily a sign that Advance Trac is there. You can only tell if there are rear discs; otherwise, it's not there.

Get both checked out by an independent third party (mechanic or shop) and I'd say go from there. If prices are within ballpark and both are mechanically clean, then I'd say go for whichever one you want :)

We ended up finding a 2003 ZX5 (comfort) with 42,000 miles and getting it for $6,200.
