Well so today after running a few errands with the wife this afternoon we got in the wagon to head home and it would not stay running unless I kept the gas pedal down, and as soon as i let it drop below 1000 - 750 rpms it sputters out and dies so basically couldn't even get it into gear without it dying. Had to get it towed to a shop but won't be able to check it out until tomorrow... and ideas on what would cause it to act that way?!

Re: New to FocalJet

It might be one or a few things. Some folks have had issues with the idle air control valve or maybe mass air flow sensor or DPFE sensor. The shop will probably run a diagnostic to see what is going on.

Oh, and I'll split this additional topic up into two parts, so people can give you some assistance with your newest issue.

Thanks for the info, and thanks for moving the topic over... still trying to figure out the lay of land over here! I should be hearing back from the shop this afternoon, fingers crossed it's nothing major.

So the wagon has been in the shop three full days and they couldn't find anything to cause it to not stay running. AND of course as I figured, as soon as the tow truck put her in the bay at the shop it started right up and has had no problems, I'm guessing the rough ride across town banged something back into place?! If that's the case something must be loose somewhere, but apparently they can't figure it out. They ran a dyno, nothing. Any ideas?!

So I had the same thing happen to me again today after I stop by napa to pick up a couple new fog light bulbs. I replaced the Pcv hose a little while after it happened the last time and everything seemed to be fine, until now! I'm guessing maybe the actual pcv valve needs replacing but haven't taken it off to really check it- any ideas?!

If it seems to run correctly but just slows down or dies outright could be IAC, they sometimes sporatically fail until they get bad enough to quit all together. That part is indicated if simply holding your foot down slightly on pedal makes it idle correctly, let go and it dies. Now, if engine missing around the problem rpm then different problem...............

So... for the 3rd time now this same thing happened - AGAIN! No check engine light ever comes on for it, so I don' think it's mechanical. I'm going to replace the DFPE Sensor and hopefully that will fix it. It's really strange because it only happens once every few months, and if I let the car sit for 20 - 30 minutes and try to start it again it starts right up with no problems.

I will also look into replacing the IAC as it will stay running if I push on the gas... anything else I should look into?!

May be a vacuum leak if the problem seems gone with cold engine and does not show up until motor good and warm. There's enough fuel mapped in to cover the air leak at cold but it drops back lean when hot and then the misfire/no idle begins...........that may be why your mechs could not find it either, I've seen engine have to run as long as 20 minutes before the trouble showed up, if they give up by then they do not see the problem.

Which piece of PCV hose got changed? There are two, one short piece in front of motor and one longer one that attaches to intake manifold bottom.

I did check the coil pack but it seems to be okay, no discoloring/or blackened contacts. The spark plugs are fairly new and only about a year old - same with the wires.
