I was just poking around the backlot at one of the local Ford dealers and came across a lone 2.3L Focus, still wrapped in plastic. It was a white ZX3 with one of the two upgrade packages, and an ATX.

So... It's official, they are no longer vaporware!!

Personally I can't wait to try out a base model MTX version.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't take any pictures because from the outside it looks... just like the rest of our cars. I didn't want to bother the sales guys just yet... because I don't like car salesmen and I didn't have a lot of time to burn wading through their talk.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">the other is Mass.

and for now, you're right. for MY 2004 it'll be available in all states.

, etc.) and knowing when I can get one without a hassle affects my decision.

Personally I can't believe how much under the hood is changed... I mean... almost EVERYTHING moved or changed! Even the battery sits in a totally different location!

I can't wait to try a 5 speed version. I declined to test drive the ATX, because I knew that they'd not only try to get me to buy it even more than usual, but it wouldn't be much of a comparison between my MTX Zetec.

It LOOKS cramped, but a lot of that is just hoses and shields. It has a little more room.

Did everybody notice the location of the oil filter? WAY easier to change oil.

Another reminder to everybody, not only does this engine put out more HP/TQ, it weighs less. (50lbs IIRC, not 100% sure).

Custom order a base model ZX3 with this badboy, and you'll have a Mini Cooper killin' H stock autocross machine.

If I get a decent job soon, I am seriously considering purchasing a second Focus.

OH MY GAWD THAT IS UGLY!!!

GET AN ENGINE COVER AND IN A HURRY!!!

Also... I dunno if I like the intake being up front.... but I guess for ram air it might make for nice and easy conversion...

/me runs off to Local Ford Dealer tomorrow morning to test drive one and beat the crap outta a test drive vehicle!

Truthfully guys... The ugliness is pretty much isolated to that area... The single coilpacks and fuel injector wiring make up most of the mess. On the Zetec, all the fuel and intake related wiring was still there... just hidden from our view on the backside of the engine.

The coilpack wiring, while ugly, is a necessary evil. Some careful re-routing would have it looking up to spec.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The oil filter alone makes me want it..........!

as far as an ugly motor, well, maybe....but I find it kind of refreshing that it isn't covered by a bunch of plastic "styling" covers.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I think that about hit it on the head. Perhaps they rushed this out the door? Maybe when it becomes THE engine choice, they'll clean it up. As others said, I'm all for the exposed look, just clean up the wiring.

edit: where's the throttle body? in that box next to the manifold? i see the cable, but it goes into that box?
