what would need to be done to have the svt handle sum 450+ horsepower?

list of engine mods planing on getting:
-Borla cat back with resonator delete
-random tech high flow cat
-vortech supercharger with after cooler"tunner kit"
-71 lbs fuel injectors
-9mm ford racing spark plug wires
-NX nitrous express stage 1 system
-steeda underdrive pulleys
-steeda short throw shifter
-focus centeral 65 mm throtle body
-2.3L stroker kit

im also considering boreing out the motor

how does all this stuff sound for makin 400+bhp?

Ah, always the voice of reason...

You're probably looking @ enough hardware for a theoretical 350ish hp with a 50 shot and proper tuning.

that borla better be 3" if you want a chance. you also might wanna put in rods/pistons (if you plan on keeping it from going kaboom) aldo maybe a FR head with larger valves etc i doubt you'll see more than 350 on a stock longblock
oh and tom will probably say lose the UDP's

I believe that what everyone is trying to say is that you're not speaking of an impossible feat, but that you need to think your strategy through a bit more. Your list of mods up top is shaky at best when considering your goal.

*Your Borla is an excellent choice. Don't expect to make power with it, and as was said above, you need to look @ a 3" setup at least. The "resonator delete" has no bearing whatsoever on power, only sound level.
*The RT cat is nice, but I tend to think your egt's would greatly shorten its life. Might as well pony up for a custom 3" downpipe/ORP.
*The Vortech probably won't support the power numbers you're looking for as-is. Best case scenario, you'll be looking at greater expense trying to squeak out 450 hp with a s/c rather than turbo.
*71# injectors sound good.
*FRPP wires, finally someone got it right and didn't ditch the OEM coil for an iffy aftermarket job. Kudos to you(for real).
*NX sounds good.
*Underdrive pulleys, don't bother.
*STS is a must.
*Don't bother with the FC throttle body. Spend far less $'s and purchase the SRF ported unit. It's a factory fit, and I dare say flows better.
*2.3l stroker is a great start.

450 hp focus = dyno queen or drag only car.

450 hp focus on the street = useless
Thank you Bela...

I mean really, what is the point of that much power in a FWD car? It's absolutely useless. It's a straightline vehicle only.

Okay, I conceed that there is the point of "We don't know if we don't try", but why dump all that money into a FWD car?

I dare say that it's not even a straightline vehicle at that point. There's only so much that can be put to the ground reliably and consistently, particularly with our gearing. Can you say "2nd gear drag launch?"

I think that the boosted foci, and particularly SVT's, are great. I just don't see the point of doing it simply because it seems like the thing to do. John(OrangeSVT03)'s car topped out @ 350ish whp @ 23 pounds yesterday at Tom's, and it's hella fun to drive(ride in). It was also built with a PURPOSE of dominating the corners AND straights on road courses. His power band is broad and usable. I don't see why a person would want a 500 hp FWD car just to own and drive every day.

But, I digress. To each his own. There is lots of sound advice in this thread already.

Regardless a 450 HP focus has a powerband from about 5K - 7K it's going to lag all the way to the top. It's such a waste in my opinion. The only reason to do that is for a purpose built drag car, otherwise I would bet money my 250-300 hp focus is 10X more fun than that 450 focus (and would definately be faster in 80% of driving situations)

I agree man, you dont want more than 300WHP on a focus, if its a daly driver, or street car, w/ 450+WHP its usless, and you'll have no control of the car. If you want 450+ make it an all ou drag, if you're not, stay under 300.

Screw you guys.... I want more power

Seriously... Its gonna be hard making that power with Centrifical SC with a Focus Engine.... and when you do see that much power you'll STILL be way on the low side for torque.

Also... I think its acheivable without the stroker kit.... but the stroker kit wont hurt

Ya dude... that much is crazy imagine your drive going from 0-60, and about 45mph you get hit by a mack truck going 90, that what it will feel like for about 2k RPM...Not fun right now my SVTF is @ 221WHP, JRSC,BBK,Throttle Body,Racing Clutch,LSD, Borla,ORP. I'll take this, on your 450WHP to the track and whoop it  But if that whats you want go for!!

450 HP in a front wheel drive car. First your going to switch out your internals. When you add that kind of power to a car you have to make preparation first. You cant just pop in all these parts and expect your car to last. Another thing beside switching internals, your also going to need a differential, or all that power is going to be useless because your wheels are just going to be spinnining. Anyways why do you want all that power? Unless your planning on draging for some major money, there is no point in all that power.

wanna be able to keep up with cobras, supras and evos

I have JRSC, BBk, Throttle Body, Borla Exhaust ORP, Stage 3 clutch, LSD... Custom tune, I can hang w/ an EVO(Stock)... However, remember those cars, Cobra's and Evo's are in a completely different class. If you want to keep w/ an Evo get an STi. I would love to the Cobra try to follow me through solom, I can out break, and corner a Corba

I'm aiming for 450ish myself. But i'm going with a Powerworks blower, 2.3 stroker, which will get me 325-350 I think, then direct port spray 100shot or so. This gives me the good daily drivabilty and nice power curve for the road course, and a little extra for the strip. Win freakin' win.
