118 isn't too shaby for a stock car. Wonder what it would be like with R-compound tires and the brembo kit....If I won the lottery
 
I guarantee any SVTF is much less than 5.4 second with the stock brakes. Here is a little something I found:

Based on pure math, it is evident that there is a very large difference in the reported performance tests and reality. Assuming a deceleration rate of 32 fpsps (1g), calculations indicate a braking stop time of 2.75 seconds (88/32). Distance traveled now is calculated to be 121 feet, which is for all practical purposed, the published performance figures, excluding reaction times.

I would say our cars can pull very nearly 1 g of braking force, so 2.75-3 seconds seems entirely possible.

yea i would have to agree with you there, 5.4 seems like much too long. I thought the brakes on the FSVT were pretty good too, especially with the size discs and weight of the car.
 
What about all of the magazines that have done tests with different brake pads and found signifcant differences in stopping distances? Not saying tires don't make a huge difference though.

I don't have time to search the internet for them. I remember one test in particular that tested a stock WRX then replaced the pads with Hawk HP plus pads. The HP plus pads knocked 15 feet off its 70-0 distance. Try telling brembo or Hawk or EBC that aftermarket pads and rotors don't mean anything beyond heat management.:dunno: granted Ive heard of big brake kits that increased braking distances but thats because some ABS systems (usually 4 channel) don't like them.

Actually they won't agree because their only goal is to sell more brakes.
 
If you have undersized brakes, no tire in the world will give you the stopping power you want. Conversely, if you have amazing brakes and crummy tires you will have long stopping distances. Larger brakes will give you better initial torque and better heat dissipation at the expense of (possible) higher inertia from their increased mass/weight. I think I am going to do some testing of my own on a back country road with my stock tires and then again in the spring when I get my new Falkens. Nate.
 
Try it out sometime. Break out the tape measure and a cone. Use the cone as your starting point and mark off about 130 feet with some chalk. Have a friend measure your distance back from 130 feet and there you have it. You could do the test multiple times to see how your car reacts with cold and hot brakes. Just make sure the friend stays out of the way. Nate.
