car was running great, went to best buy to return something and i get home, park my car...

i start to hear air escaping from the engine, VERY LOUDLY! sounded like the air was coming out of the spark plugs. i took all the spark plugs out and cleaned up the oil that was in the hole for some reason.

now the car wont start and sounds like its back firing =/

did a head gasket blow or something ? how screwed am i????

and you have air coming out around the spark plugs as in compression? If so how many of the spark plugs all of them or just one? Take the spark plug out and check the little washer on the plug to see if its damaged or missing. My thought is you didnt tighten them properly and torque them to specs. Just get a new set of plugs and put them in and the problem should be gone.

they plugs seemed to be on tightly...the 1st plug on the right seemed like the most air coming out of and when i pressed down on it the air would stop sort of.

when i took all the plugs out to look inside the holes were flooded with oil, when i cleaned them and put the plugs back on the car wont start now.

ill pick up some new plugs and see if it fixes everything

Did the plugs have oil on top of them when they were screwed into the head? Or was the oil inside the spark plug hole (inside the combustion chamber)? If it was on top of the plug while the plug was installed in the head, I think you have a bad valve cover gasket. Air coming out of the spark plug indicates that you have a compression leak coming out through the head where the plug screws in. You might have damaged threads on your cylinder head. Losing compression = the possibility of losing the ability to start or drive your car.

there was no oil on top of the plugs just inside the cylinders.

My guess... blown head gasket, or cracked head, due to the oil in the cylinders. If you find that it's mixed with coolant in there when you take the head off, then you will have to do a COMPLETE, anal, obsessive-compulsive cleaning job on the whole engine insides... just pull the engine and disassemble it if you find coolant in the cylinders. Otherwise, it might just have been a bad spark plug letting air escape past the center electrode.

so i changed the oil, oil filter and spark plugs...

the car starts now but with a rough start and it sounds like its having a hard time idle and when i give it gas. =/

i didnt even try to drive it around the block it prob wouldnt make it.

Well I sure as hell hope it's missing,,, being all the Focus engine options use a tapered seat sparkplug.
... if you have no clue just say so.

Now as I'm reading Warriors issue;
- loud air sound
- sounds like from spark plug area
- oil present on spark plug threads / electrode
- runs rough

Air escaping from a spark plug could be a damaged plug, broken porcelain, or it can be damaged threads in the cylinder head, as noted.
Oil on the electrode can be either cracked rings (or just very worn), damaged cylinder bore, leaking valve stem seals (though this often times will show as smoke upon startup and/or deceleration).
Running rough, based on what you've done thus far, I would say is either dirty plugs or you missed a plug while reinstalling a plug wire,,, though it's also possible you damaged a plug wire while removing it, they aren't the best design and break rather easily.

Things you should also double (triple) check are that you've bought the correct spark plugs for the car; in all cases/engines stick with the factory recommended Motorcraft brand plugs. Yes running the wrong plugs can cause problems and can be severe as engine failure due to wrong plugs.
Re-check you plug wires. Ohm them if need be to ensure they are still decent. Make sure you get the boot on the plug all the way.

Compression test is a good idea. Most parts stores should have one you can rent. Just remember to remove spark and fuel during testing (ie disable the fuel pump and ignition by removing fuses).

change the valve cover gasket and change the pcv valve going to air box as well.
if you pressed down on a spark plug boot and the air is coming from around the boot its a good indicator that i'ts coming from the valve cover
