ok.. as my car is pulling it will disengage, then as it hooks back up i hear a rather loud "chirp" coming from the transmission... has anyone encountered this? what is it? is my tranny about to crap out?

anybody else having this problem? has anyone else gotten a different answer from a dealer than Red-SE-00'?

Red-SE-00': do you drive at the track? how aggressively do you drive? i'm just trying to compare where the sound stems from and if the stress on the tranny is causing it

Fun Ford Fact #67453: ZX3 ATX tranny Sings like a canary between gears

yes... it does flare between gears... not all mainly only first to second

I may have the answer here
I had the same problem untill i notice this
it has something to do in relation to the deal use. It does it for me too between first and second gear but only when i do not firmly aplly the gas pedal example:

You are driving the car is in first a turn in the road comes up with a slight hill and you let off the pedal right about the car is about to shift to second. The car needs the power to move up the hill but your letting off for the turn its a automatic comtolled by the ECU the computer is hesitating to see what you want the car to do so is hesitates in neutral for a second till the computer finds the right gear for the situation. It is normal I reproduce the problem may time for the service tech and all the time were because i let off the pedal at the time it was in mid shift. A way to solve the problem is to let off the gas before the shifting point. Not during shifting. about 29 miles per if you drive about 25 26 mph and then floor it you will see the engine rev up big time and autotranny shift hard into second. very coool. the next shift point is some where about 45ish then the next at 75 ish from the to the rev limiter is fourth. i have a little white dot about each point. On the intrument cluster len. basiclly I mapped out the points that the car shifts. So i know the exact gear its in & about when its going to shift.

I do ALOT of highway driving!!!

So the quickest part of the ride is normally from 45-75mph!!

But...under heavy accel I do not hear it...well...the engine has taken over and I cant make out much that small!!

I am not that hard on the engine per say...I am more of a road car guy so I turn hard and just stay in the gas as long as I can!!

mine does it in the 2-3 shift, it also lags between the shift, allowing the rpm's to climb some 2-300 rpm before completing the shift. art had the same problem and blew his to pieces, ford is clueless with what to do about mine, and they've had my car for over a week at this point.

flaring, mostly in 1st and second. Well you can pretty much rule out the torque convertor. have you checked your tranny fluid yet? low fluid levels could cause slipping in the tranny. also smell it, if its burnt, time to flush and replace. suppose to flush the tranny at 30,000 miles. low fluid, sticking pressure regulating valve or solenoids, worn clutch packs can all cause slipping ( like the problem your describing toolebox ).

wow.. thanks for all the responses guys.

actually... the sound is there as a constant... with or without acceleration... it is much more predominant under accel and highly noticable under heavy accel (when you can hear it over the header)
Image
I think im gonna take it and get the fluids checked... I am over 30k miles and have not changed the fluids

I yanked out my chip to see if there was any cause from that... nope! now my shifts just feel sloppy...

ok... i listened carefully again today at lunch without the chip in the car... the shifts are much sloppier and less firm, so the sound isnt as obvious anymore. but the sound actually occurs from 2nd into 3rd not 1st to 2nd

does this shed any new light on things? all in all i gotta get it into a dealership... end of story... I just hate being without my car
