Audiopile Sub Woofer Direct Replacement

After searching a bunch of threads I could not find one that listed a direct replacement for the Audiopile Sub Woofer in a SVT. Most people were doing upgrades but for me a direct replacement with a better quality speaker is all I needed. I couldn't take the rattling any longer of the rotted out factory sub.

After a hard target search I found the JL Audio 8W0-4 to be a direct replacement.

Thought I would post up for the next person looking.

Install was a snap:
Removal
Remove sub box cover, twist out rear hatch light
Remove 5 10mm bolts that hold sub enclosure to body
Remove amp plug
Remove 1 8mm bolt in back of enclosure (mounts through sub magnet)
Remove 8 7mm screws that mount front of sub to enclosure
Disconnect speaker wires

Installation
Plug hole in back of enclosure where 8mm bolt secured magnet (back of sub)- I used a rubber plug from Ace
Connect Speaker wires
Install 8 7mm screws that mount front of sub to enclosure
Install 5 10mm bolts that hold sub enclosure to body
Connect amp plug
Install rear hatch light and sub box cover

Back when I had my red zx3, I had a friend who did audio mount me up in an SVT box an 800 watt 8" Infinity sub and he completely sealed the box. This sub is a deep mount, the magnet was almost 8" in diameter, and required simple modifications of the stock box (like MDF to bring the sub mounting surface up to level with the face of the box)

Now, this thing required a larger amp (i had 500 watts going to it), but lord almighty it was nice.

Wow I can even imagine that much power. This little JL Audio sub is like night and day difference than the stock sub. Great little 'bump' for under $80.

So there's enough space for the JL sub & magnet to clear to allow it to sit flush?

Do the bolt holes on the JL sub frame match the holes on the OE sub enclosure?

Did you put any sealant on the wires that come around the bottom corner of the sub?

Does the carpet cover &/or speaker grille on the paneling come into contact with the speaker surface at all? I see there is a gap but the JL speaker "travels" further than the OE. Also I have the FWerks rear stress bar which probably has to come out in order to remove the carpet/grille paneling properly to access the enclosure bolts.....

Yes

Yes- most did but its a plastic sub enclosure so make new holes with the self tapping screws if need be- no biggie

Used the stock wiring harness that has some foam around the wires-no issues

No I didn't use the sub grill- only the grill attached to the paneling- so I'll have to be a little careful with cargo I see there is a gap but the JL speaker "travels" further than the OE. Yes probably on that- not familiar with stress bar but my guess is it attaches between shock towers

I'll see if I can get a pic but I don't think you will be able to tell much. SQ? not sure what that is but there is a dramatic difference with the stocker as opposed to the new sub. Makes we want to replace the other speakers now for crisper highs now that the low frequency is taken care of.

Replacing the 9006 with a decent head unit and leaving the stock speakers will sound better than upgrading the speakers and leaving that crappy 9006 in the dash. The plate 2-way speakers in the SVT are pretty decent.

Forgot to mention I also have a Pioneer F700bt, even made the stock speakers sound really good, but I have since replaced with some Polk's

Having been in both of these situations, I strongly agree. My first had the stock head unit but all aftermarket speakers, and my current one has a decent Sony HU, but all stock speakers. And they sound *amazing*, for stock speakers at least.
