Just a quick heads up, this handy little feature which automatically locks the doors when you start driving can also be activated when the car is completely standing still. Just hit the throttle and give it a good rev with the doors closed. It's really awesome when you're working under the hood and decide to give it a little rev. With the doors closed. And the windows rolled up. And your spare key is nowhere to be found.

I am pretty sure the focus does this by speed and not by throttle. Correct me if I am in wrong.

I thought so too. Until I had to tear apart the house looking for key#2 with my car idling in the garage. I bet the neighbors think I'm a chronic or something.

I rev my car more than 99% of the people on this site, I know for certain that reving your engine will not unlock your doors.

he said he revd it and it lock his doors not unlocked
although ive revd mine with doors closed hood popped and it never locked on me

My bad, my brain interpreted it incorrectly.

Your doors locked, unless you were on jack stands and the wheels were turning I don't see that scenario happening. Its more likely a foreign radio frequency identical to a key fob triggered the door locks.

Roll down your window and try and duplicate the self lock issue and let us know what you find out.

It's definitely speed related.

*Well, I know for sure in the SVT.
Also my '01 ZX-3 and my wife's '03 ZTS. If you roll slowly enough, they won't even lock, and I can bang the rev-limiter with it not moving and they won't lock. Whether I'm revving from the pedal or the throttle-body.
I'd like to know what year, model, etc this happened with, and if it can be replicated.
:)

Well i know that the doors can automatically lock based on time. Long story short, i left the vehicle with keys still in ignition (thank goodness it wasnt running) , doors closed as i left with windows rolled up and 2 seconds later the doors locked on me.

The car locking itself while sitting still is just something that happens occasionally.

In the nine years I've owned Foci it's happened to me twice. Both times while the car was sitting in the driveway warming up with the car in neutral and the e-brake set.

I guess it pays to have your spare keys where you can find them.

If you go back and find one of the early Road and Track long term tests you'll find that one of the R-T guys got locked out of the test car on the side of the road when he stopped to take a leak and left the car running and windows shut.

I've gotten in the habit of rolling the window down far enough so that I can reach in and open it if needed, It only happened twice but I learn from my mistakes.

Happened to me once with my ST, I was in a rush at work having to run and get a license plate for a trailer that was being dispatched in half an hour. Left me enough time where I was to hit the office grab the plate and dash across town to the center and put it on. I jumped out of the Focus left it running, ran into the office grabbed the plate ran out and tried to open the door. I freaked out called the dealership which was right around the block, got a key made for free and got the door unlocked. That door key NEVER leaves my side in case the situation occurs again. Plus its handy in locking the doors and leaving the car running at the gas station when running in to grab a drink when its cold outside.

Yeah, it happened to me once at the car wash. My wallet and phone and everything was inside the car still, and the car was still running. I was SO pissed. I finally found someone that had a coat hanger, and I ended up ripping my weatherstrip all to hell to finally get into the car. I can honestly say that the Focus is one of the hardest cars to break into.

I think it costs about $150 for a locksmith to unlock a Focus last I checked.

No luxury at all, its ridiculous how much it costs to undo a lock.
