I'll probably be working that weekend and get off some time that morning so I won't be there first thing. If it's busy that means I won't be racing but if it isn't too bad I'll have the Cobalt out again to see what some cooler temps are good for. If there's a track day it's almost guaranteed I'll be there.

$20 for the day probably means one run right? I hear it gets crowded.
It's not quite that bad. The way Fontana works is that you'll either get two or maybe three whole runs in or you'll get 30+ runs. And it's hard to tell which one it's going to be until the day you show up.

Last summer/fall it was so dead at the last couple street legal races that the manager canceled most of the remaining events for the year. Over the course of those last couple races I got almost 70 runs in and that was with showing up pretty late int he morning.

With the races last month being busy due to no street legals for the previous three months I'd bet this upcoming one will also be busy. The weather is nice and cool and gas prices are way down. It tends to get less crowded in the middle of summer when mid-90 degree temps and lousy traction don't attract as many people for some strange reason. The over $4/gallon gas prices last year also didn't help the track when many people didn't want to make the drive.

And if the weather holds up and the temps stay down maybe we'll see some nice times...

Who am I kidding. Even if the weather is good track prep/traction has never been a strong point. At least it should be fun. Hopefully.

Pistons hitting valves? That's nothing a Dremel tool or die grinder can't fix.

Just checked the forecast and it's looking like a clear day with highs in the mid 60's. Hopefully it holds up and the track surface gets a little warmth into it as the day goes on.

Gah, I'm out. Had to order a new cam - the pistons were hitting the valves.
Humm....
Why?

Bump up the compression?
HUGE valves?
Resurface the heads just a wee bit too much?
HUGE cam?

Would be interesting to know what combo to NOT do. But it sounds wicked, high compression, big valves and big cam.... (*Evil*).

Too much lift for the stock pistons.
Interesting, I would have though the valve spring might have collapsed before that happened.

What cam did you have and what cam are you going to? You could also change out the rockers to a lower ratio if the interference was small... but you're only talking something like .015-.019 or something like that.
